Robin & William
Robin Wright Penn and William Hurt

A district attorney (William Hurt) falls in love with a star witness, a woman who was once involved in an abusive relationship with a defendant. He has driven three women to attempt suicide, and the last one has succeeded. Hedda, his first lover, had a promising swimming career destroyed by her desperate reaction to his abuse, yet she refuses to accuse the man. What is the nature of a love that can encompass such treatment, the film asks, and how is such a love to be judged in comparison to the deeper bonds of family.

Info

Robin Wright Penn won the Best Actress Award at the Seattle Film Festival and received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for "Loved", which was a special presentation at the Toronto Film Festival.

"I hope Loved helps women question their relationships," said Robin Wiright Penn. "But it's so funny; Biological studies say men love once and only once, whereas women can duplicate that love. Maybe it's part of being a mother. I don't know if men can love like a mother loves."
