Quicktime VR or QTVR is a fun and interactive
file format from Apple Computer that essetially allows a user
to view a place or object as they would a photo. However, QTVR
goes a step further by allowing the user to navigate within this
'photo,' creating an immersive experience and a feeling of being
there. This unique feature allows interaction and thus adds to
the user's experience, as opposed to dumbly viewing or watching
a movie - where the viewer has no say or degree of participation.

There are two main types of Quicktime VR movies
- Panoramic and Object. Panoramic movies are usually of places
and sites where a viewer has the oppurtunity to navigate around
a scene eg. the living room of a house or a nature park. They
involve a user at a point where the viewer is looking at a location
from his or her own point of view. Object movies are self-explanatory.
They are of physical objects that a viewer can manipulate to
look at eg. looking at a basketball or a lego figurine.
How To Use
Quicktime VR files are small and can be viewed
by both Macintosh and Windows users, in either browser. Users
will need to have Quicktime 3.0 (available free from Apple at
www.apple .com) and its browser
plug-in for Netscape and Internet Explorer.
Wait for the Quicktime VR file to load, once
ready, users can navigate or manipulate the movie by using the
mouse and clicking at the extreme corners (left and right) of
the movie to go in the desired direction. Users can also zoom-in
(shift key) and zoom-out (control key).
