I have been collecting rocks my whole life, and I have a lot of the afore mentioned pretty rocks, which I keep polished, and in a wooden chest my great-grandmother gave me. I also have a tiny collection of my own minerals that I have found. I have a tiny piece of citrine quartz found in the Dresden area, some garnet and clear quartz crystals from some of the quarries in Topsham, and a lot of pink granite from the swift river (like I said I am addicted to pretty as opposed to valuable!), I also have some very crude green tourmaline from a mine in Topsham that my friend found and gave to me.
I also have some other interesting pieces from the Rangeley area that I have yet to identify. There is what I beleive to be Part of a Staurolite Fairy Cross, but it also looks like it could be andalusite (sp?)...does anyone know if this is the same thing - because they look very much the same? My favorite gemstones are any of the Si02's (Amythest, Citrine, etc...) and the Beryls (esp. Aquamarine). Well, Now I am rambling...I'll have to go through and edit this for coherency later!!!
