News: 2004 Report Card on Homelessness In Ottawa Released
1% of Ottawa's population was homeless at some time in 2002!
SHORT is dedicated to improving the quality of life and housing of all our members.
Welcome to the web presence of the Ottawa  chapter of SHORT!

Feeling a little SHORT?
Don't worry - you are not alone!
If you live in a shelter, hostel, or "other residence" like a half-way house, group home or rooming-house, just rent a room or even live on the street, you are automatically a member of SHORT!

SHORT is an organization by and for its members. SHORT exists to provide a voice for the voiceless - the poorest of the poor - people who often aren't even covered by normal "landlord-tenant" law.

Until SHORT, there was no-one to turn to if there was a problem with shelter staff, or even to make sure the various agencies lived up to their legal obligatins. Prisoners have better defined rights than someone living in a shelter! SHORT wants to change that.

We are all entitled to dignity and the equal protection of the law - like the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Until SHORT was founded,  we had no voice.  Now we do, and you'll be hearing much more from us
