marking scheme;-

There are three (3) things I mark a website on. This page was invented so you know what to expect when I'm marking your site, and just so you can "clean" your site up a bit before I take a look around it.

First Impression
I don't really like WPRs that judge a website on its "loading" time, I think it's quite silly in fact. However, I believe that first impressions are very important. If you have a splash page, don't worry I'm not biased towards that, I have a splash page for a website of my own. However, if you have a totally pointless splash page, deductions will be made because I am impatient and the fancy graphic will not please me a bit, even though it is my weakness. A pointless splash page is where it's just a picture that says "Enter" leading to the main page. I understand if you use PHP and need to link the php file through the splash, but if it's just another .html/.htm file, I'll get very upset. Splash pages are meant to have a set of guidelines for the viewer to follow in order to fully enjoy your site. It should state what they should have/use and what to look out for. If, for example, your website does not work with any other browser other than Internet Explorer, state it! First impressions are worth 5 points, because they leave a lasting impression on the visitor.

Layout
Worth a good chunk of 15 points because a good site at least looks like it bathes. Please impress me, make me go "Oh my god, I am so jealous," you'll be glad you did. A good layout/template makes the site *very* easy to navigate, on the main part where the content will load state where the navigation is. Especially if you have a fancy layout with "words" or "numbers" as the links. If you have a decent layout (it doesn't even need to look pretty), you *should* get full points. Be warned; I'm a webdesigner so I'll be picking about it. It's not hard at all to have a decent layout, and also you'll get on my goodside if you at least attempt to make your own layout/templates. Please if your website looks like crap visit Free Layouts and do yourself a favour and download a template that will at least make your site look good.

Content
Content is of course, what I'm really here for. If you've got only 5 pages, don't even bother, please. Unless the 5 pages are complete with information and such. Most WPRs have "Originality" and/or "Creativity" as part of their marking scheme. For me, the content is a mix of Originality and Creativity together (they're very much alike), so your content must be creative and original. But I know it's very hard to be original and creative these days, so I'll try to go easy on you, but I'm not promising anything. I don't mind reading or anything, as long as your site is worth visiting. I want to leave your site with a big smile. I'm sure you would appreciate that too. This is worth 20 points.

The total mark is out of 40. In the reviews sections, there's:

  • the great: a mark of 80% and above
  • the good: a mark of 69% to 79%
  • the bad: a mark of 50%-68%
  • the ugly: a mark of 49% and below

  • Sites attaining a mark of 95% and greater receive the shiroi yoake award. <xmp>
