Shelley Ontis, Having Written

A list of my published work including all fiction, poetry and non-fiction, and some more information about me can be found at my blog The Tortured Metaphor.

Scam Slam, Get The Skinny on Bad Bizops was an online newsletter I wrote and sent out to almost 300 subscribers in 2002. I wrote all content, including many articles examining specific business models, practices, and some focused on specific businesses themselves. At the time, I wrote Scam Slam out of curiosity and the desire to help people avoid scams. When lack of time forced me to end the project, I didn't look at it as anything relevant to a writing a career, just a labor of love, so I didn't consider pushing the articles, marketing them elsewhere, or even keeping some of them, especially those written about businesses that shortly after went belly up.

Some of the articles I no longer have were written about the health and wellness home-business industry and the industry in general (Hype and Wellness, a Trillion Dollar Industry), examinations of Adplacing.com (which is now defunct, no surprise), envelope stuffing scams, home typing scams, Ponzi and pyramid schemes, an in-depth look at Procard International, and many more.

One humorous article (if you're familiar with business scams) remains online in various business article depositories, and was frequently reprinted by other business websites. The other two are articles that I saved, probably because one, The M.O.M. Team article caused quite a bit of controversy (including a back and forth debate on a home business message board between me and the company's founder, Donna Stewart), and the other article was written after I'd worked for the company to see what it was like on the inside.
