CITATION
Mr. Muhammad Shahid is member of Molecular
Biochemistry group and group incharge of Protein Molecular Biology in
the department of Chemistry (Biochemistry), University of Agriculture,
Faisalabad. He got his M. Sc. Degree in Biochemistry in 1998 and M.
Phil. in Biochemistry in 2001. He earned different scholarships
throughout the academic journey, especially university merit
scholarship in M.Sc. and UGC merit scholarship during M.Phil. Now his
Ph.D. (Biochemistry) is in progress. One of his research paper,(
M.Phil.) on the improved HPLC method for Secnidazole determination,
was accepted for poster presentation in 26th International
Symposium on High Performance Liquids Phase Separation and Related
Techniques, Montreal, Canada from June 2-7, 2002. This reflects his
high caliber in analytical skills and high quality research conducted
by him. He attended and presented his work in many national and
international and highly appreciated. He won shield on best poster
presentation in International Symposium on Medicinal
Plants7-9.Sept.2004; NARC,Islamaabad.
Research area of Mr.
Shahid is Bioactive Peptides and Proteins from Medicinal Plants in
this regards currently, he established the Protein Molecular Biology
Laboratory under the umbrella of Molecular Biochemistry Research
Group. Currently his research group won two shields in 7th
international symposium on “Protein Structure Function
Relationship” (January, 20-24, 2003) at HEJ Research Institute
of Chemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan.
Mr. Shahid has successfully completed a research
project as co-principal investigator. He has very good command on
advanced analytical techniques and work with exceptional skills. He
provides guidance and technical support to researchers and students
not only of his subject but also from various fields from his
university and other.
In recognition of his research work, Mr. Shahid
was awarded 2004 “Young Investigator Award” from HUPO (Human Proteome
Organization) in 3 rd Annual World Congress, (Oct. 25-27,
2004) Beijing China and presented his paper. Mr. Shahid has attended
many national and international training, conferences, symposia and
presented papers. He himself has organized many seminars, lectures,
scientific meeting and research orientation programmes as resource
person. He has a number of good quality research publications to his
credit. He compiled and edited a chapter in a book in his field.

CURRENT RESEARCH INTEREST
Bioactive peptides/proteins from medicinal plants
Research on
antimicrobial peptides is a fast growing scientific field. First
reports date from the 1970’s, where peptides with antimicrobial
properties be purified from plants. Since then a growing number of
new proteins with similar function have been found in different
organisms. Most of these proteins are active against a broad
spectrum of microorganisms.
Recently, I am Interested in:
Isolation, purification and characterization of peptides/proteins
from medicinal plants.
In future, the characterized proteins will be expressed in suitable
host and used as drug ingredients and natural preservatives.
