*&* Much Ado About Nothing *&*
Oh yeah pple! This page is for the more obtuse about the little symbolism and subtleties in my fic and my explanations for some things OR for people to think this is much ado about nothing and I am just plain delusional and fanatical with my fic! A.K.A. This page is for my rantings about the fic.
I truly think that, as I must have mentioned earlier somewhere out-there, that things happen for a reason and even if a *little* bit of history changed, okay, so the *little* bit encompasses the whole "Immortal" quartet, things would have ended in a some what similar fashion, is that a spoiler or what. So, in this fic, I have drawn some parallels to the REAL DEAL, notice some misplaced quotes hidden in the fic? If you are a D & N fanatic like me, you would have noticed by now... For the less fanatical, I may point out some to you.
Do note, this fic is still heavily under, as some would grumble, SLOW construction, so if you have any ideas or grouses I am welcome to hear them!
PrOLoGuE...
Since this *is* a fluffy fic, I wanted to start off very fairy tale like in a light hearted sort of way. Hence the "once upon a time"... and, I hope, a humourous depiction. Of course, I wanted to bring across a message... the unfairness of gender biasness and how society can be riduculously unfair...
In the "Immortal" quartet, I feel it is strongly brought across that ANYONE can make a big difference, especially someone which seems insignificant or unimportant.
Eg.
In Wild Magic, when Daine gets taken in by Ouna, little would anyone suspect that she would play such an instrumental role in the survival of Tortall. Even King J, whom I dislike, comments rather wisely, *for once*, that he never knows when someone could be useful to him. (You can go check out the quote, I am writing it off my head)
In Wolf Speaker, again, when Daine goes rather reluctantly with Numair to the castle to have dinner with the nobles, it is again underlined how insignificant and how UNDERESTIMATED Daine seemed to the adults.
In Emperor Mage, Daine is seemingly belittled and overlooked by everyone in Catharak, which of course, makes her triumph all the more sweeter, or so I feel. Even Daine does not think much of herself, which is in line with her down-to-earth nature, she comments to Lindhall that "when all is said and done, I am just a girl with wild magic" and that nobody would remember her except the birds she heals. Irony pple, the irony of it all!
I tried to emphasise this, "insignificance" of a significant character, Buxyina, and how she changed significantly the future of significant people. Hence, the whole entire litany of all the titles of the significant people in Tortall... *Applause for those who refrained from hitting me with their shoe for saying significant so many times...* In addition, at that time, I had this period of time where I felt really insignificant in my new environment, some may label it as growing up or maturing, but still, it is, I find, very saddening.
Since TP is into "realism" of that day, hence incorporating the idea of arranged marriages of the royals, I also decided a bit of realism, such as sexism is needed as well. Of course, this was prompted a bit by the fact that it DID exist in the grand TP land!!
Eg.
Let me not get started about Keladry, yes people? We have four books on sexism on that...
In Wild Magic, Daine commented to Ouna when she first wore breeches that the elders back home wouldn't approve.. *note pple! first parallelism drawn... of REAL Daine and fictional Buxyina...*
I have two younger brothers, so unfortunately or fortunately on the day I was writing the fic, I was reflecting on how my parents always call on me to do things, rather than my able bodied younger brother. Made me quite pent up, and hence, trying, rather feebly, I think to communicate the frustration of Buxyina and her circumstances. And how, it was NOT Buxyina to a certain extent, but SOCIETY was to blame for the changing of the future.
Eg.
Swine herders isolation from society... Things would have been different if Buxyina was in line with the social norms and would not have acted out of character...
Of course, society's expectations and stereotyping of males and females.
I sort of insidiously hinted of corruption and bribery of authorities in society. If the authorities were as fair as they were idealistically supposed to be, Buxyina and her people would not have been shoved to such an "ulu-ated" aka isolated spot. No domino effect would have taken place.
I have mainly based the prologue around the quote from Wild Magic, on how Daine heard of Ouna's hiring. I always thought, what happened if Daine did NOT hear of it? Risky, wasn't it? ^_^
More rantings later. Priorities on me to work on story, yes? ^_~
I suddenly realise that this ranting has rather become like a literature essay... *sweatdrop* Kudos to those who have read through it! Pat on back! *PAT! PAT!*
Comments? Feedback? I welcome them! Tell me! Or if someone could tell me the correct spelling of some words or actual precise quotes would be nice!
