The Serpent Citadel
Headquarters of the Serpent Society
The Serpent Society is a criminal organization founded by former leader of the Serpent Squad, Sidewinder.  Providing its members several benefits, including comraderie and the diminished fear of imprisonment, the Society attracted several snake-themed villains, and became one of the most successful villain groups in the history of Marvel Comics.  While the majority of the Serpent Society's accomplishments occurred in the 80's, one can only hope the Serpent Society will strike again.

This site is dedicated to Mark Gruenwald, for without him, the Society would never have been created.

SERPENT OF THE MOMENT: ASP
Formerly a snake charmer in Egypt, Asp somehow found her way to America, where she caught the eye of Sidewinder.  It is unknown how they met, but during her first appearance, Asp was a member of the Serpent Society.  There has been some confusion about where she gained her powers.  Some say she is a mutant, and the paralyzing blasts she utilizes is simply her mutant abilities.  However, personally, I have yet to see any indication that she is a mutant.  Sure, her appearances in Alpha Flight HINT towards her POSSIBLY being a mutant, but I just don't see it anywhere else.  Her handbook entry definitely would have stated if she was a mutant or not.

Regardless, Asp is quite a mysterious character, and possibly one of the most intruging of the females.  Diamondback has been well-established, and Black Mamba and Anaconda to a lesser extent, but Asp has been given very little character development over the years.  One thing is certain -- she isn't nearly as evil and cunning as some of the other members, but she is there to get the job done.  She is soft-spoken, but handles herself respectfully.  Out of the B.A.D. Girls, I definitely get the impression that Asp is the most intelligent one.

Despite being the least developed, Asp has something both Diamondback and Black Mamba cannot claim: a heroclix figure AND a Marvel Overpower card.  It's ironic that Asp would be given the merchandise while Diamondback only has one and Black Mamba none.  However, most recently, when Diamondback and Black Mamba appeared in Civil War as members of the secret Avengers, Asp was nowhere to be found.  What has become of our beautiful Egyptian goddess?
