This year Chanukah begins at sundown on December 9th. On the Jewish calendar, the Feast of Lights starts on the 25th day of the month of Kislev and lasts for eight days. It is also known as the Feast of Dedication and commemorates the victory of the Maccabbees over the Syrians in 165 B.C. and the rededication of the Temple at Jerusalem.
