Summer of '42 Theme

Hanford Wildfire
Richland, WA June ~27+
The fire started with a fatal car accident on Highway 240. The fire burned for several days in the wilderness until shifting winds fanned fire toward homes in West Richland and Benton City at over 15mph. The wildfire has burned about 1/3 of Hanford Range, including all of ALE.
  • 190,000 acres (291 square miles)
  • 70 structures destroyed, 25 homes
  • 1000+ firefighters
  • 8 "fire bomber" aircraft
  • 6 helicopters
  • Only 1 fire-related injury aside from respiratory ailments, no fatalities


Pictures taken from Battelle 2 miles north of Richland, facing west toward Hanford range. Note that these pictures are taken with a 35-100mm lens, so details are within ~.5 mile away.

These pictures are all in the same place. The lights to the left are HAMMER. This is about 2 miles north of Richland.
