MAKE-UP FOR B-RUDE - FALL 2005
Theme for the show was Blood & Glitter. That meant lots of fake blood, bruises, bowie-esque lightning bolts, and of course, glitter. Three looks were dominant in this Boy George fashion show.
Boys with cropped and shaved hair sported mean looking bruises and cuts to one side of their heads. The bruises were created with yellow, red, and burgundy cream colour bases from MAC, with gloss texture and matching glitters applied on top. Their "cuts" oozed with fake blood, created by the very talented key Christine Bateman, using honey and a little red pigment. As a sexy subversive touch, the boys' eyes were lined with engraved eye pencil and their lips glossed with pink lemonade lip glass.
Boys with pompadour coifs were treated to a little Bowie glamour. Their skin was perfected with foundation & powder, while their eyes were made mysteriously smokey with engraved eye pencil, carbon eye shadow and a little mascara. The cheeks were made slightly flushed and dewy with salsabelle cream colour base. The prominent feature for this look was a bright colored slash a la Ziggy Stardust over one eye, using paintsick & glitter.A final touch was the glossy pouty lips wearing pink lemonade lipglass.
The girls were the minority in this show;7 total, compared to 18 boys. That meant the girls had to have a strong glamourous look with lots of attitude. Christine's inspiration for the girls' looks was Blade Runner, especially Pris' look, with the band of makeup across the eyes. however, instead of black, the bands were in various bright colors to match each girls outfit. Then, glitter was applied to the paintsick painted band to give it extra pizazz. The eyes were made very dramatic, with engraved eye pencil, carbon shadow, black creme liner, and top&bottom lashes.Lips for the girls were the same as the boys, with a little subculture pencil used to make the lips slightly fuller. This show was easily my favorite one that I worked on, because of the theatrical looks and Christine Bateman's easygoing personality and amazing talent with makeup.
