What is Faith?

What we believe in and trust in is very important in our lives. Many times in life we question our faith and what faith is. The secular definition of faith is “complete trust” or to believe in something even if you don’t know that is true. The religious definition of faith from the Catholic Church is an “intellectual assent to a loving God and His revelation”.

3 Key Ideas

·                    Blind Faith-Many people believe in God, but they don’t have any reason for believing. They believe just because they where told that God is real, not because they have reasoned out why there is a God.

·                    Nihilism- There is people who believe that there is no objective or moral truth in the world. They deny that there is any truth in the universe. They think that everything in the universe is constantly changing. They believe that what is true in our society today can change tomorrow.

·                    Radicalism- There is people who believe in something without any evidence that can support their beliefs. There are some people in their religion who take the writings of their holy book literally, called fundamentalist, and there are those who act off their beliefs without reason, called fanatics.

Question

Is my faith real or blind faith?

A lot of times I put my faith in things without any reason at all. I did this often when I was younger. But as I grew older I often would question many of the things I believe in, such as my faith, and reason out what I believe, and in doing this I get a deeper understanding of what I put my faith in.
