On
Friday, October 26, 2007, a letter from the Superintendent was sent home
with all DCS students which contained the following information:
"We
continue to investigate this incident, are cooperating with the New York
State Education Department (which is responsible for professional licenses
including those of nurses), and we have suspended the school nurse
involved with this incident until further notice." -- (underlining added)
[Note:
10/30/07 - We have just learned that the nurse was suspended WITH PAY.]
Update 11/20/07 - A letter came home with students today addressed to all DCS parents. On Monday, November 26, the school nurse will be returning to serve the DeRuyter Central School District as school nurse for K-12 students and staff. During the first week of her return, she will be receiving professional development. In addition, administrators will continue to regularly monitor the nurse's office to ensure that all procedures and policies are practiced. The revised Medications Procedures (7513R) and Crisis Notification of Parents (7520R) will be placed on the district website. Copies will also be available in the district office. The New York State Education Department report is forthcoming.
A school employee who endangers the physical health of children by accident
gets suspended. Why not a teacher who endangers the emotional and
mental health of children on purpose with a violent R-rated
movie, pornographic pictures of genitals, abusive name calling, and instruction on how to commit suicide? |
