INTRO
In late 2001 I had the opportunity to visit Japan to research several magazine articles, thanks to some funding from Asia 2000 Foundation. When I returned, most of my energy went into getting the articles written and published. Some of them are featured below. I took two cameras with me, and took over 500 photos in 15 days ( I also shot some Super 8 film for a music video for my musical project Dub Asylum). Its taken me a while to figure out what to do with all these photos - if you're here, you've probably seen the results in print.
The above image, which features on the cover of Scratch, is a graffiti art wall I found while wandering round the back streets of Shibuya, checking out the gaudy exteriors of the love hotels in the area (no, I didn't go inside!). It's by American artist Doze Green - he's created a small doll figure that matches the figure in the painting. Google it and you'll find it.

Acknowledgements.
Thanks to Asia 2000 Foundation, who helped fund my trip to Japan. Thanks to
New Zealand business magazines Computerworld, Unlimited, and pop culture magazines Pavement, Pulp and Real Groove (some of which are linked below). Thanks to Brad Tattersfield at the NZ Embassy in Tokyo, who helped me set up interviews, loaned me his mapbook of Tokyo, and kept me company when I got taken out for lunch by the New Zealand Ambassador. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on visiting Japan.

Next issue of Scratch out sometime 2004. That's as specific as it's gonna get, so live with it. Enjoy.

There are 300 record shops in Shibuya
