Provisional rankings for the end of this season are shown in the following page :-  2008 Country Ranking

Scotland started the season provisionally in 11th place and are still in that position.  Our main rivals to secure 10th place spot are Ukraine and Turkey.  We have made a good start but are still running neck and neck with Turkey for this season.  To overtake the Turks we need 1 more draw than them.  Due to the changes in the entry format for champions League in season 2009-10, there is now no difference between 9th and 12th in terms of CL entry.  The winners of these countries league will have direct entry to the Champions League and the runners up will have a tricky qualification against the 3rd and 4th place teams of some of the major leagues in europe.

Draws

Champions League

Celtic 2-3 Barcelona

Celtic have come out top once in the 3 head to heads.  Their overall record against Spanish teams is won 2 lost 9. In the 34 previous occasions a Scottish club has lost the first leg at home, no team has ever qualified for the next round.

UEFA Cup

Rangers v Werder Bremen

Rangers have a won 10 lost 14 record against German clubs.  The overall Scottish record is won 25 lost 36

Season 2006/7
Scotland having secured 11th in the European Rankings at the end of Season 2005/6, this guarantees 2 Champions League qualifying places and 2 UEFA Cup places for Season 2006/7.   European places played for in the domestic season 2005/6 for the 2006/7 European tournaments are as follows:
Champions (Celtic) 3rd Qualifying Round of Champions League
Runners Up (Rangers) 2nd Qualifying Round of Champions League
3rd in League (Aberdeen) 1st Round of UEFA Cup
Cup Runners-Up (Dunfermline) 2nd Qualifying Round of UEFA Cup
For this season the Scottish teams will be seeded for the various tournaments dependant on each teams UEFA ranking. This is calculated by taking one third of the country coefficient and adding all points gained by that team (2 for a win 1 for a draw) from the 1st round on over the previous 5 years in Europe. Based on this, it is best to use the rank for comparison with previous seasons. The Scottish teams rankings and points total used for this season are as follows:-
Team Points Rank
Celtic 62.064 24th
Rangers 47.064 45th
Aberdeen 11.064 164th
Dunfermline 10.064 174th
