What a lovely find! Nice of you to put these here.

I was looking for two poems: Gerontin and Coriolan. Something--I don't know what--caused them to bubble up in my memory from thirty years ago. I found the first on the web, but I think I will have to go to the library for the latter.

Your Bartleby links can be updated. They have a new site now (which is fortunately auto-redirected).

Anyway, thank you.

Hi - I just thought I would give you folks a bit of interesting information. I am a student at Merton College, Oxford, the college at which T S Eliot studied (for a while). I thought you might be interested to know that there is a room in college called t e 'T S Eliot' room. Unfortunately, it is the place where the pool table and video games reside. But still, I think it is really weird how I use this room everday, but it is named after a really great poet. I know that is really useless information.....any ay - see ya!

I just bought my first DVD movie (Apocalypse Now) and I could have sworn I heard Kurtz read from "The Hollow Men." I looked for Eliot via Yahoo! and surfed to your site. Call it providence :o) I've read a good deal of Eliot and I always come away with something new. In college (I hold a BA in English) I had the task/pleasure of explicating "Prufrock." It was quite an experience. Anyway, I couldn't have picked a more powerful film than "Apocalypse" for the initiation of my DVD player. Both in terms of production quality (audio and video) and overall thematic content it's simply spectacular. I noticed that Sheen also quotes the final line, "... not with a bang but a wimper." This is a great poem. There are probably other Eliot references that I missed in the film, but like a good poem, perhaps I'll pick them up on my next viewing. Anyway, good luck to you Scott. I've enjoyed your site and will return soon. By the way, there are some GREAT lines in "Easy Rider" to pick from for your movie game. It, too, is one of my all-time favorite films. James

Truthfully, sir, I am a novice at poetry appreciation. I bought a book of W. B. Yeast's poetry. I love some of it, but have trouble with most of it. I am not learned, but I am hungry. That is why I looked up your web site on T. S. Eliot. I wish I cou d have given you my favorite poem of Mr. Eliot's, but I am not that familiar with his work. I do know this one, but I do not know the name of it: We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. I hope to become familiar with T. S. Eliot's work through your web site. Thank you for the opporunity. Bless people like you for keeping alive great literature for us. Thank you. Your friend, Philip.

Thank you very much for the initiative. I trust that for most who visit this site, Eliot is without a doubt the greatest poet of the 20th Century, if not of all times. And I very much hope the opening statement is so amended to reflect this. Many Eliot passages remain to be the most powerful of all art forms all times. I gave up poetry writing because of Eliot. Would anybody be interested in opening an online or email T. S. Eliot Forum?

Today, I was assigned a research project on the great T. S. Eliot. Before i started, I had no clue and did not realize who this poet was. Later, however, I learned that he was the inspiration for the spectacular play, CATS. (Which I have seen twice and bsolutely love) I thought, even before I knew who wrote it, that Macavity was the best song of the play. So,I guess that's why his poem about Macavity: The Mystery Cat will always be my favorite. Especially since I know all the words because of the song in the play.

Favorite Poem (Eliot or otherwise): The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

Comments:
T.S. Eliot saw truth before his time (ah, the ever-present theme of TIME in Eliot!) Perhaps it is fitting that now, in time present, we can see the truth of words spoken in time past. "This is the way the world ends/ Not with a bang but a whimper." Huxl y said it in "Brave New World", Fitzgerald spelled it out in "The Great Gatsby" (and has anyone ever noticed how similar Gatsby and The Waste Land are? It's uncanny!)...people shall be dictated, but by apathy, not tyranical government. I'm glad to see tha others appreciate Eliot's work, his messages are strong...they should not be lost sight of. It's a beautiful world, enjoy it so that we never see a real life Waste Land...:-)

T.S. Eliot was a great man who thought and expressed great things. He will always remain one of my favorite poets. But I do have to admit that his being a republican lowered my appreciation for him and also I like to say that I am in love with Lord Byro and if anyone who reads this shares my sentiments or knows a good psycic who can reach him for me, please e-mail me. A truly very good compilation. My respect to the poet lover who has taken the initiative. You must realize, however, that Mr. Eliot was an Anti-Semite. I disaprove of such people and so should any right-minded person. Please be so kind as to include his "darker side" in his biographical, so that people may have the benefit to know alittl bit about the true T.S. Eliot. Thank you in advance.
