Over the course of UPT and advanced
training, I've picked up some quotes that I really enjoy. Here are a few of
them:
"SELF-CRITIQUING"
An action that, if taken, would
likely lead you to the conclusion that you should not (or might not be
able to) do it again. For example, walking into a propeller would be
"self-critiquing."
"PFM" (Pure F#%&ing Magic)
Something not largely understood by
the pilot community. Travel or Military Pay often seem to operate by this
concept (but, for the record, I have no complaints).
"ON COURSE COWS"
For oft-flown low-level training
routes, the cows can tell you if you are on or off course. If the herd
scatters at the sound of your airplane, you are off course. If, on the
other hand, they could care less that you are 300 feet overhead, you know
you're in the right spot.
"PUBLIC MATH"
Though much of the math that is
necessary for this job is quite simple, it never fails to confound the
crew once the tires leave the ground.
"HERD OF TURTLES" or "A BUS-FULL OF
NUNS"
The inevitable barriers found
suddenly in your path on the runway when your IPs want you to spit out the
abort/reject procedures.
