SATELLITES ON YOUR SCANNER

Many people are often amazed when they find they can hear signals from space , whether it be voice or weather satellites which a pc running suitable software can convert into pictures....

WHAT DO YOU NEED ?

The two main peices of equiptment are a scanner capeable of receving from 137 to 138 mhz , a computer running win 95 or later , a lead to conect the scanner to the computer (e.g 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack ) these can be inexpencivly bought from maplin, tandys, ect

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

The system works by the scanner being pluged into the LINE IN (recomended) or the MIC socket on your soundcard

AERIALS

For reception a vertical whip or discone will work but you wont get the best results , a pair of crossed dipoles would be ideal

  1. Plug you scanner into your computer , plug on end of the lead into the scanners earphone socket and the other into the sound card
  2. Download some decoding software , there are lots of different progams which can be downloaded free of charge
  3. Find an active frequency on 137-138 mhz
  4. Start the program up and start decoding
