Originally born Chloe Anthony Wofford, Toni Morrison changed her  name because no one in school pronounced it right. She was born on February 18,1931 in Lorain, Ohio. When Toni's family moved from the south, she attended an integrated school. At school, she was the on black girl and the only person who knew how to read.Toni graduated with honors from Lorain Highschool in 1941 and the attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. Toni graduated from  Howard with a BA in English then went to Cornell University and recieved a master's in 1955. Toni was offered and accepted a job at Texas Southern University. She soon felt the need to go back to Howard. After she went back to Howard, she fell in love with a Jamaican architech, Harold Morrison. They married in 1958 and had their first son in 1961. Her marriage went downhill and while pregnant with a second son, she left her husband and went on a trip with her sons to Europe. She later came back to Lorain, Ohio and moved in with her parents. Toni Morrison's wors include The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, Tar Baby, Beloved(which recieved a Pulitzer Prize for fiction). Her last book, Jazz, recieved the Nobel Prize for Literature. She was the first black woman and eighth woman to recieve the Nobel Prize in Literature.
