MUSIC

William Preston Few OrganI started taking piano lessons in kindergarten from Mrs. Frances E. Rogers at age five.  At that time, I could walk from our back porch to her front porch in about thirty seconds.  Over the years, I was dropped off after school at Mrs. Rogers' house on Wednesday afternoons and then drove my own car to her house after school.  Mrs. Rogers retired as organist of Macedonia United Methodist Church after over sixty years of service.  She taught me a great love for classical music, but also to serve the church with my musical gifts.  Over the years, I played for some services and other activities at my home church, Mullins Presbyterian Church.

In December 1995, I started playing the piano for the 10:00 services at Center United Methodist Church, a short drive from our house.  I played at Center until I left Mullins in August 1998 to go to Wofford. In Mullins, I also played for a couple of Mullins High School functions and one summer theatre production of the Mullins Playmakers.

I began studying the organ at Wofford College with Dr. John M. Bullard, Albert C. Outler Professor of Religion, Emeritus.  Wofford has a Holtkamp Organ, used in official college ceremonies and celebrations, but also for church services each Sunday.  After Dr. Bullard retired in 2001, I became the organist for Worship at Wofford services held each Sunday in Leonard Auditorium, Main Building.
