Mr. James's Art Class, Shippensburg Area Middle School, Jan. - June 2001
Welcome!
Please check out the awesome  student art!
These pages serve as a  tribute to the wonderful creativity displayed by the middle school students at S.A.M.S. during my long-term substitute position there from January 19, 2001 until June 4, 2001.
My name is Curtis James and this page is my tribute to the students and staff of the Shippensburg Area Middle School.  I enjoyed my time as their art teacher working with students in grades 6, 7, and 8.  It was an incredible experience and one that I will look back on with immense joy.  The students, faculty, and staff of SAMS were all a pleasure.

Please visit the
links to the students' clay projects and tempera artwork. Here you'll find their incredible talent on display!  I'm proud to have been there to encourage their efforts.  Of course, there was some frustration because middle school students can be a handful, but it's all worth the extra discipline and patience expended to be in the company of such a wonderful, creative, and fun group of kids.

I have been interested in art since I was a child.  My family always had
crayons and paper available for me to use for drawing.  Mr. Jim Nolt, who is my uncle and also a retired elementary school teacher, had a huge collection of comic books and monster magazines which fueled my imagination.  As a young boy I attended Saturday morning art classes with Lancaster County artist Jay McVey.

Inspired by Mr. McVey and Mr. Nolt, I pursued my teaching certificate in art education.  I earned this certification in December 1999 and served as a substitute teacher from March 2000 until November 2002. In November 2002 I was hired as a full-time art teacher with the
Harrisburg School District.
