"To the Dark Forest and Back"
A Song by Silkfire

(often sung or recited gustily as a song in taverns late at night when everybeast's drunk) It was during a fight,
'gainst an otter and his band.
It was the day
My adventure began.

I was fighting like a madbeast,
Slaying left and right.
When a javelin came flying,
And the day became night.

For a minute there was nothing.
But when I come around I sees,
A black iron gate.
Surrounded by dark trees.

A badger stood at the entrance.
He held a big sword.
And right then I knew,
This was the Dark Lord.

"Come," he intoned.
"Your death is come."
"Your soul has departed your body,"
"Your life is done."

"No," said I.
"Somebeast else can die, not me."
So I kicked that Dark Lord,
right in the knee.

The Dark Lord did howl,
He cowered in fright!
As I slowly turned around,
And marched toward the light.

So I returned to my mateys,
Who had won that ol' fight.
And I got some plunder,
That was mine by right.

Now you can see,
Jus' as plain as day,
I've been to the Dark Forest,
And still got away.
