"Escape"
A Poem by Loki Sunspice

The sharp winds blow o’er eerie shadows,
I gasp a startled cold breath.
The black trees bend, with dark sky they blend,
Whilst they moan of imminent death.
I claim them lies and close my eyes,
And utter a silent prayer.
Then from behind my back resounds a sharp crack,
Only God knows what’s lurking there.
What should I do? I haven’t a clue,
What lies behind or ahead!
If I knew my way, I can honestly say,
Long ago I would have fled.
But I push through the snow for certain I know,
That my God is on my side.
He’ll never leave and if I believe,
He’ll be my needed guide.
My heartbeats pound for now the sound,
Has changed to something more real.
A glint of light has caught my sight,
But is it day, or steel?
I take a breath, and pause my step,
And begin to call out in the dark,
“I’d like to know, are you friend or foe?”
But am interrupted by a lark.
Can it be? Oh blessed me!
And to the light I run.
I pause to pray, “Thanks for showing me the way”
And dance beneath the sun.
