"The Stoat"
A Poem by Killbane Lockeye

In the deepest, darkest forest,
In the deepest, darkest cave,
Lies an everlasting creature
Dug deep in his own grave.

They say he was a leader,
Of a mountain miles away,
And he'd slay the biggest weasel
With a poke of a paw they say.

He ruled the mighty mountain,
With his hares galore,
Until a warlord stoat came knocking
With a horde of two hundred score.

He did not take kindly
To the stoat and the horde,
So a battle raged on
Until one side lay floored.

The hares finally won it,
They were in terrible pain,
The stoat and the horde were killed
And the badger was slain.

So in the deepest, darkest forest,
In the deepest, darkest cave,
Lies the everlasting creature
His life he gave. Return to Poems Page
