"The Wreck of the Revenge"
A Poem by Gohon

It was the vessel Revenge,
that sailed toward the dimming light.
Knowing that fate had shunned her,
and she wouldn't live though the night.

The captain had his daughter,
to bear him company.
He taught her all he knew,
and his love for the sea.

A storm was coming,
one like they'd never seen.
To put a sparkle in a sailors eye,
but oh, this storm was mean.

The captain and his mate,
were proud officers true.
When the storm approached,
they knew they must go through.

On one side lay enemies,
on the other lay home.
The storm between them,
hissing spray and churning foam.

They bravely fought the storm,
as the deck rolled and tossed.
They worked together,
so all would not be lost.

The captains daughter,
Cried out in alarm.
Her father roared,
Crying the alarm.

"Women in the water!"
he cried with all his might.
He threw out float and lines,
till she slipped from his sight.

Off in the distance,
he saw a flickering light.
"Steer for the lighthouse, lads,
and don't lose sight!"

But sight they did lose,
through the winds wild lament.
They crashed onto the coral reef,
through the mighty torrent.

The ship gave a mighty shudder,
as a hole was ripped in the hold.
Spilling out their possessions,
their plunder and their gold.

Sailors watched The Revenge,
from the safety of shore.
Knowing if they went to help,
they too would be on the oceans floor.

The brave captains daughter,
who we mentioned before.
Was battered by the sea,
and finally swept ashore.

Her eyes were cold,
and encrusted with salt.
The crew of the ship,
had had no fault.

The captain and the crew,
they were never found.
But memorials for them were raised,
and they consecrated the ground.

The loot and plunder,
they had held in their hold.
Turned the shores of Sampetra,
a forever gold.

The wreck of the Revenge,
forever haunts us still.
Reminds us of nature,
a force that will always kill.
