Welcome to the Southern Maryland Catamaran Club. The SMCC is a group of catamaran sailing enthusiasts located in Southern Maryland.

What is the SMCC?

SMCC is a group of beach catamaran sailing enthusiasts located in Southern Maryland. We principally sail out of Solomons Maryland. We do some casual racing in conjunction with the Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA), have some of our own informal races and sometimes sail together to various local destinations.

Thursday Night Race Series

Some of us participate in Thursday Night Racing with the Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA).

Thursday night racing is done on the Patuxent River, just off Solomons Island.  The Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) sponsors this race series for small monohulls and catamarans. For info and results click on Small Boat on the SMSA web site.  Contact Patrick at ragenp@yahoo.com for more info.

We mostly do day cruises, vice racing (except the Thursday evenings with SMSA), but every once in a while...

Since we have a wide spread of boat performance and just a few boats, we have been playing with a staggered start idea. This is a little difficult to implement since you have do know how long a race will take in order to determine how to spread your start. But we find it bunches boats up a the finish, and creates good competition rather than just having the fastest boats take off never to be caught again. If our estimated time is off, we can always still correct the overall times.

SMCC Typical Casual Race Legs and Distances

A typical race would be from Glascock's Beach, to the West Basin Mark, to Hog Point Mark, and return.  This could take from one to two hours depending on the wind.
