EPISODE: YEAR OF HELL, PART 1 AND 2

Alsuran - This is one of the races that Annorax has erased from time; Annorax tells Paris that the food he is eating is the last remnant of the Alsuran Empire. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Alveoli - While fixing the malfunction in the ventilation system, the alveoli in Janeway's lungs are chemically burned. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Annorax (Kurtwood Smith) - Captain of the Krenim time-ship; Annorax doesn't want to give up until every Krenim colony and individual has been restored; Obrist tells him that many of the crew think that Annorax has lost his objectivity and that his quest for perfection is unreal; Annorax kidnaps Chakotay and Paris from Voyager and tries to erase Voyager from time. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Annorax tells Chakotay and Paris that he could restore Voyager to its former state in the blink of an eye if they will cooperate with him; he has collected artifacts from hundreds of world; Annorax says that if Chakotay and Paris don't help him, he will destroy Voyager when he finds it; Annorax has been trying to restore the Krenim Imperium for the last 200 years ever since the erasure of the Rilnar race caused 50 million Krenim deaths; when Chakotay confronts him about the erradication of the Ram Izad species, Annorax tells him that one species or a single life is insignificant; Annorax lost his wife during the 2nd temporal incursion when the colony on Kyana Prime was erradicated; all he has left of her is a lock of hair; he says that he will not stop until he has restored Kyana Prime; he thinks that time is punishing him for his arrogance; Paris says that Annorax is paranoid with a hint of megalomania; after the temporal incursion within the time-ship causes all of history to be restored, Annorax returns to his wife on Kyana Prime. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Astrometric lab - Kim and Seven demonstrate the improvements to the Astrometric lab to the senior staff; Janeway says that they have managed to merge Starfleet and Borg ingenuity to create a much more efficient navigational system; the astrometric sensors measure the radiative flux of up to 3 billion stars simultaneously and then the computer calculates the ship's relative position to the center of the galaxy; Seven says that it is 10 times more accurate than what they have been using; using the sensors from the lab, Seven was able to plot a new course home that would eliminate 5 years from their journey; Janeway and Seven go to the Astrometric lab to look at the previous scans of the area to try to find out why the Krenim Imperium has been changed. (Year of Hell, Part 1) After Voyager is returned to its original state, Chakotay suggests a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Astrometrics lab. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Brooks (Sue Henley) - Female ensign on Voyager; she is Seven's cabin mate since the crew have had to share quarters; Seven says that she leaves equipment laying around and her clothing on the floor. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Carrier wave - Janeway analyzes every carrier wave of the transmission from the time-ship and determines that the message contains a classified Starfleet ID code that she says could only have come from Paris. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Causality paradox - Janeway says that the erasing of the Garenor species from history may be a causality paradox since all of history was changed as a result. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Chronometer - Chakotay gives Janeway a replica of Captain Cray's 19th century mechanical movement chronometer as a birthday present but she tells him to recycle since they can't afford to waste energy on non-essentials. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Janeway finds the chronometer in Chakotay's quarters and she puts it on her belt. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Chronoton torpedo - Tuvok determines that the Krenim weapons are chronoton based and they are able to penetrate Voyager's shields because they are in a state of temporal flux; Tuovk analyzes the info about the chronton torpedoes to see if he can modify Voyager's shields but he is unsuccessful; Seven finds a undetonated chronoton torpedo lodged in the starboard Jeffries tube on Deck 11, section 2; Seven determines that the exact temporal flux of the torpedo is 1.47 microseconds; the torpedo detonates before Tuvok and Seven can get out of the Jeffries tube; Seven is able to construct temporal shielding that protects Voyager against the Krenim's torpedoes. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Cochrane, Zefram - Cochrane had first contact with the Vulcans in Montana on Earth; his ship was called The Phoenix. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Comet - Chakotay says that Voyager changed course when they encountered a rogue comet and that course correction led them into Krenim space; the Krenim classify this comet as component 37329; by destroying the comet, Chakotay believes that it will cause Voyager to bypass Krenim space altogether; when he runs a simulation he discovers that the destruction of the comet would have caused all life within 50 light years to never exist and it would have destroyed over 8000 civilizations; 4 billion years ago, fragments from that comet impacted a planet and hydrocarbons from it gave rise to several species of plant life which then sustained more complex organisms and eventually several space-faring civilizations evolved and colonized the whole sector. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Cray - Cray was a captain in the British Navy; his ship was hit by a typhoon in the Pacific and he and his crew were thought to be killed but he sailed his ship into London harbor 8 months late. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Deck 5 - A power overload in Sickbay causes half of the conduits on Deck 5 to overload and explode; after the explosion, sections 10-53 on Deck 5 are gone. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Deck 11 - Torres wants to check the Jefferies tube network on Deck 11 since she believes that the EPS manifold might have been hit during a Krenim attack; since Torres is injured, Seven goes to check it instead and finds a undetonated chronoton torpedo lodged in the starboard Jeffries tube in Section 2; the power grid on Deck 11 is destroyed in a Krenim attack. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Deflector Control - When Voyager is being bombarded by the micro-meteorites, Janeway goes to Deflector Control to get the deflectors back online manually; Tuvok says that the area around Deflector Control has been designated hazard level 4; Janeway finds a fire there and sustains severe burns when she accesses the manual controls. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Dermal regenerator - The Doctor isn't able to heal all of the damage to Janeway's skin after she is burned by the fire in Deflector Control because he doesn't have a dermal regenerator. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Earth - The Vulcans made first contact with Earth in Montana. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Elixir of Endurance - This is what Neelix calls the ration cubes he prepares for the crew. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Emmanuel - Crewman on Voyager; Emmanuel and Strickler are killed when they are unable to get to safety before the conduits on Deck 5 explode. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Environmental controls - The environemntal controls on Voyager continue to fail and 7 decks of Voyager are rendered uninhabitable. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

EPS conduit - Janeway and Neelix find 35 ruptured EPS conduits as they survey damage to the ship. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Escape pods - Janeway orders most of her crew to evacuate Voyager and use the escape pods to try to make their way toward the Alpha Quadrant; the escape pods are equipped with subspace beacons which will allow Voyager to track them. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Force field - Tuvok thinks that erecting a Level 10 force field should contain the explorsion of the chronoton torpedo lodged in the starboard Jeffries tube on Deck 7 but the torpedo explodes before he can do this. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Garenor - Annorax goes to the Garenor homeworld and erases the species from history; this temporal incursion causes the entire Krenim Imperium to revert to a prewarp state; Voyager passed the Garenor homeworld 3 weeks ago. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Human - Tuvok says that most humans are less than meticulous when it comes to their domestic habits. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Inapprovaline - The Doctor tells Paris to use inapprovaline to treat one of the crew members who has damaged lung tissue. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Jeffries tube - Seven finds a undetonated chronoton torpedo lodged in the starboard Jeffries tube on Deck 11, Section 2. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Krenim - Voyager is attacked by a Krenim warship that orders them to leave Krenim space; they have low warp capacity and limited armaments; according to the Zahl, the Krenim dominated this part of space years ago but the Zahl defeated them and took back all the planets the Krenim had annexed; Obrist tell Annorax that the destruction of the Zahl homeworld has resulted in a 98% restoration of the Krenim Imperium; this includes 849 inhabited worlds spanning 5000 parsecs; Annorax has been trying to restore the Krenim Imperium for 200 years; Voyager is able to destroy one of the Krenim ships by deploying 4 photon torpedoes like mines; after the temporal incursion at the Garenor homeworld, the Krenim Imperium reverts back to a prewarp state. (Year of Hell, Part 1) The Rilnar were the Krenim's greatest enemy; Annorax erased the Rilnar from time but then a rare disease broke out among the Krenim and 50 million people died within a year; the Rilnar had introduced a crucial antibody into the Krenim genome and that antibody was eliminated when the Rilnar were destroyed; after Voyager is returned to its original state, they encounter a Krenim ship that tells them that the area is in dispute so they plot a course around Krenim space. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Kyana Prime - After the Krenim temporal incursion destroys the Zahl homeworld, the colony on Kyana Prime is not restored. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Chakotay studies the time-ship's previous incursions and discovers that Kyana Prime is the one component that has never been restored after any of the temporal incursions; Annorax says that he lost his wife here and that he will not stop until he has restored Kyana Prime; after the temporal incursion within the time-ship causes all of history to be restored, Annorax returns to his wife on Kyana Prime. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Malkoth - The Malkoth race was once a powerful race in the region; Annorax says that the bottle of Malkothian spirits is the only component left of the race and that everything else never existed. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Malkothian spirits - Annorax serves Malkothian spirits to Chakotay and Paris; he says that it is an extremely rare vintage and that it is the only bottle known to exist. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Mawasi - Voyager forges a coalition with the Nihydron and the Mawasi to attack the time-ship; Janeway sends Tuvok, Seven and the Doctor to the Mawasi ships; 2 Mawasi cruisers join Voyager in the attack on the time-ship; one of the Mawasi ships is hit and then crashes into Voyager. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Medical Regulation 121, Section A - This regulation gives the Chief Medical Officer the authority to relieve the captain of command if he believes that her judgment has been impaired; the Doctor formally relieves Janeway of command using this regulation. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Mess Hall - After half of Deck 5 is destroyed, the Doctor sets up a triage in the Mess Hall. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Micro-meteorites - Voyager encounters a field of micro-meteorites; the meteorites begin to erode the hull since Voyager's deflectors are offline. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Nacelle - Torres says that one of the warp nacelles is offline and the other is a lost cause; Janeway wants to reroute all available power to the good one; Torres reports that it will take a minimum of 3 weeks to repair the starboard nacelle; the nacelle pylon begins to buckle from the damage from the micro-meteorites. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Nebula - Voyager takes refuge in a Class 9 nebula in order to make repairs; gas from the nebula gets onto Voyager when there is malfunction in the ventilation system; Janeway decides to leave the nebula because she wants to get back into open space and find allies and put together a fighting force to take on Annorax. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Nihydron - Voyager forges a coalition with the Nihydron and the Mawasi to attack the time-ship; Janeway sends Torres and Kim to the Nihydron vessels to work with their engineers to equip their fleet with temporal shielding; 3 Nihydron warships join Voyager in the attack on the time-ship; Annorax destroys 2 of the Nihydron vessels. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Obrist (John Loprieno) - Obrist is second-in-command on the Krenim time-ship; after the Krenim Imperium has a 98% restoration, Obrist tells Annorax that they should dismantle the weapon and go back to their families. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Obrist says that he used to honor the birthdays of his brother, parents and friends but stopped after a century passed and he realized he was celebrating birthdays for the dead or for people who had never even existed; he tells Paris that he and crew are not happy with Annorax's obsession to totally restore the Krenim timeline; Obrist agrees to give Paris access to their communications array so that he can send a message to Voyager; Annorax orders Obrist to target the other vessels, but Obrist shuts down the temporal core instead and transports Chakotay and Paris to one of the Mawasi ships. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Phoenix - The Phoenix was the name of Zefram Cochrane's ship when he made first contact with the Vulcans. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Photon grenade - If the temporal core of the time-ship is offline, the ship's shields are incredibly weak and a photon grenade could penetrate the hull. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Photon torpedoes - Tuvok says that Voyager has 11 photon torpedoes left; since the torpedo launcher are offline, Janeway has Tuvok deploy 4 of the torpedoes like mines. (Year of Hell, Part 1) When they are preparing to attack the time-ship, Janeway says that Voyager still has 6 photon torpedoes. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Power grid - Kim reports that the power grid is at 32% efficiency but he thinks he can bring it up to 50% in a few days. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Ration cubes - Neelix prepares this for the crew in the Mess Hall; he calls it the "Elixir of Endurance"; it is loaded with amino acids, carbohydrates and all the nutrients required for the crew to withstand the stressful conditions; he purees it and mixes it with water and enhances it with Talaxian spices; Seven says that it is offensive. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Replicator - The replicator system on Voyager is badly damaged so the crew has to eat emergency rations instead. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Rilnar - The Rilnar were the Krenim's greatest enemy; Annorax says that after he erased the Rilnar race from history, the Krenim instantly became powerful again but then a disease broke out among the colonies; Annorax had failed to realize that the Rilnar had introduced a crucial antibody into the Krenim genome and that the weapon had eliminated this antibody as well. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Saint Emillion - Janeway says that she will replicate a bottle of Saint Emillion for the ground-breaking ceremony for the Astrometric Lab; she chooses a 2370 vintage because she heard that that was a good year. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Spatial distortion - A huge spatial distortion 5 light years across which originated from a ship near the Zahl homeworld heads toward Voyager; it is a massive build-up of temporal energy and destabilizes Voyager's warp field; when it overtakes Voyager, it destroys the Zahl ships and causes the nearby Krenim ship to become larger; the spatial distortion from the temporal incursion at the Garenor homeworld causes the nearby Krenim ship to shrink in size; Kim says that the spatial distortion originated approximately 20 light years from their position and that it looks like a shockwave in the fabric of space-time. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Starfleet - Janeway analyzes every carrier wave of the transmission from the time-ship and determines that the message contains a classified Starfleet ID code that she says could only have come from Paris. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Strickler - Ensign on Voyager; Emmanuel and Strickler are killed when they are unable to get to safety before the conduits on Deck 5 explode. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Temporal core - The temporal core of the time-ship keeps the ship out of phase with normal space-time; if the core is offline, the ship's shields are incredibly weak and a photon grenade could penetrate the hull; Obrist takes the temporal core offline; Paris transmits the exact location of the core to Voyager; after Voyager collides with the time-ship, the temporal core destabilizes and this causes a temporal incursion within the ship. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Temporal incursion - The temporal incursion at the Zahl homeworld results in a 98% restoration of the Krenim Imperium; the temporal incursion at the Garenor homeworld causes the Krenim Imperium to revert back to a prewarp state; Voyager is unaffected by this incursion because of their temporal shielding. (Year of Hell, Part 1) The temporal incursion at the Ram Izad homeworld results in a 52% restoration of the Krenim timeline; Annorax lost his wife during the 2nd temporal incursion when the colony on Kyana Prime was erradicated; after Voyager collides with the time-ship, the temporal core destabilizes and this causes a temporal incursion within the ship; this incursion restores Voyager to its original state before they entered Krenim space. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Temporal mechanics - Chakotay says that he failed Professor Vasbinder's course on temporal mechanics. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Temporal shielding - Tuvok tries to construct a temporal shielding for Voyager but he fails; Seven is able to construct this shielding by matching Voyager's shields to the temporal variance of the torpedoes and matching the deflector array to the inverse of that variance; they test the shielding in battle and it is successful; Voyager's temporal shielding has thrown off the calculations for the temporal incursion at the Garenor homeworld and caused the Krenim Imperium to revert back to a prewarp state; Obrist says that Voyager's shielding is generating a Level 9 temporal disruption. (Year of Hell, Part 1) The crew equips the Nihydron and Mawasi ships with temporal shielding to protect them when they attack the time-ship; Chakotay tells Annorax that if Janeway gave the temporal shielding to the Nihydron and the Mawasi, they will be able to protect their homeworlds from Annorax's weapon; Janeway tells Tuvok to have the Mawasi and Nihydron ships take their temporal shielding offline hoping that when Voyager destroys the time-ship all history will be restored. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Temporal variance - The temporal variance of the chronoton torpedo is 1.47 microseconds; Seven is able to construct temporal shielding around Voyager by matching the ship's shields to the temporal variance of the chronoton torpedoes and matching the deflector array to the inverse of that variance. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Time-ship - Annorax is captain of the time-ship; the Krenim use the time-ship to initiate temporal incursions hoping to change the Krenim timeline; Kim says that Annorax's vessel is in a state of temporal flux as if it exists outside space-time; because of its mass, the time-ship can't exceed Warp 6. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Annorax says that the ship is more than a weapon, but also a museum of lost histories; the temporal core of the time-ship keeps the ship out of phase with normal space-time; if the core is offline, the ship's shields are incredibly weak and a photon grenade could penetrate the hull; the crew of the time-ship are not happy since they've been on this mission for 200 years; after Obrist takes the temporal core offline, the time-ship phases back to normal space-time; a temporal incursion occurs on the time-ship when the temporal core destabilizes. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Titanic - The Titanic was an ancient steamship; Paris's idea of creating transverse bulkheads on Voyager was inspired by the Titanic which had a series of special bulkheads that would lower into place if the ship suffered a major hull breach; the Titanic sunk. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Transverse bulkheads - Paris comes up with the idea of transverse bulkheads which would set up emergency force fields between all decks and every section in the event of a cataclysmic breach; he was inspired by the ancient steamship Titanic which had a series of special bulkheads that would lower into place if the ship suffered a major hull breach; in anticipation of wide-spread breaches, Voyager activates the transverse bulkheads when they escape from the Annorax's time-ship. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Trioxin - Janeway orders the Doctor to inject her with trioxin in order to help her breathe better after the alveoli in her lungs are chemically burned; the Doctor says that trioxin is only used in emergency situations as a stop gap measure. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

USS Voyager - Seven and Kim's improvements to the Astrometrics lab allows Voyager to set a new course that would take 5 years off their journey home; Voyager is being continually attacked as the ship travels through Krenim space; a power overload on Deck 5 causes half of the deck to be destroyed; 12 crew members are wounded and 2 crew members are killed; Chakotay recommends that they leave Voyager behind and attempt to cross Krenim space in the escape pods and shuttles; Janeway says that as long as Voyager is in one piece, they will stay on board; the entire turbolift system is non-functional after 19 main power relays are damaged in a Krenim attack; Paris comes up with the idea of setting up transverse bulkheads on Voyager between all decks and every section so that most of the crew would be protected in the event of a cataclysmic breach; the morale on Voyager worsens after continued attacks cause many of the primary systems to go down; the replicator system is badly damaged and the crew must eat emergency rations; the environmental controls on Voyager are continuing to fail; 7 decks of Voyager have been rendered uninhabitable; Seven is able to construct temporal shielding for Voyager which protects them from attack by the Krenim; the Krenim call Voyager componet 049 Beta; they had classified Voyager as an inert component but because of its temporal shielding Voyager has thrown off their calculations for the temporal incursion at the Garenor homeworld; Annorax tells Obrist to collect a 10 square meter sample of Voyager's hull; Janeway orders most of her crew to evacuate Voyager but she and the senior staff remain on Voyager. (Year of Hell, Part 1) Voyager takes refuge in a Class 9 nebula in order to make repairs; Annorax tells Chakotay and Paris that he could restore Voyager to its former state in the blink of an eye if they can give him information about their experiences in the quadrant so that he can see how other components were affected by their presence; Voyager entered Krenim space after it made a course correction 8 months earlier to avoid a rogue comet; Voyager forges a coalition with the Nihydron and the Mawasi to attack the time-ship; Voyager still has 6 photon torpedoes; Janeway says that Voyager is much more than inanimate object; she says that it has been their home, kept them together and that she feels as close to Voyager as she does to any member of the crew; one of the Mawasi ships collides with Voyager after it is hit; Janeway sets Voyager on a collision course with the time-ship; after Voyager collides with the time-ship, a temporal incursion occurs that restores Voyager to its original state before they entered Krenim space; after a warning from a Krenim vessel, Voyager plots a course around Krenim space. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Vasbinder - Chakotay says that he failed Professor Vasbinder's course on temporal mechanics. (Year of Hell, Part 2)

Vulcans - The Vulcans made first contact with Zefram Cochrane in Montana on Earth. (Year of Hell, Part 1)

Zahl - Annorax erradicates a single Zahl colony but learns that that is not enough to restore the Krenim Imperium; he decides that to be successful he must go to the Zahl homeworld and erase the entire Zahl species from time; Voyager is entering Zahl space located at spatial grid 005 which consists of many M class planets; they are a technologically advanced but non-confrontational species; the Zahl defeated the Krenim many years ago and took back the planets the Krenim had annexed; after the temporal incursion at the Zahl homeworld, the Zahl are erased from time; Obrists tell Annorax that the destruction of the Zahl homeworld has resulted in a 98% restoration of the Krenim Imperium. (Year of Hell, Part 1)
