Devonian Era - The Eryops lived during the Devonian Era. (Distant Origin)

Dilitus lobe - Gegen notes that Hogan's remains is lacking a dilitus lobe which indicates that the species has a very rudimentary sense of smell. (Distant Origin)

Distant Origin theory - Gegen claims that the discovery of Hogan's remains proves the Distant Origin theory that says that the Voth evolved somewhere else in the universe and travelled to this area of space millions of years ago; this theory goes against basic Voth doctrine. (Distant Origin)

Earth - The Saurians may have been the first intelligent life on Earth; evidence of their origins on Earth may have been hidden by the countless natural disasters Earth has encountered in the course of history. (Distant Origin)

Eryops - This is one of the creatures that Janeway and the Doctor view on the holodeck when they are trying to find an ancestor common to humans and Veer; this creature lived in the Devonian Era over 100 million years ago and was thought to be the last common ancestor of the cold-blooded and warm-blooded organisms. (Distant Origin)

First Race - The Voth have believed for millions of years that they were the first intelligent beings to evolve in their region of space; this belief has been questioned in recent years by Circles of Science and Philosophy and by the common people as well; Gegen claims that the discovery of Hogan's remains disproves that the Voth were the "First Race" and that the Voth evolved somewhere else in the universe and travelled to this area of space millions of years ago. (Distant Origin)

Force field - Chakotay erects a level 10 containment force field around the bridge after Kim detects an intruder's cloaking technology; the force field disrupts Gegen and Veer's interphase so that they are unable to transport back to their own ship. (Distant Origin)

Frola (Nina Minton) - Gegen's daughter; Gegen knows that Veer is attracted to Frola because he has seen the tint of his scales whenever she is around. (Distant Origin)

Gegen, Forra (Henry Woronicz) - A Voth professor; Gegen and Veer find Hogan's remains; Gegen decides to challenge Voth doctrine when he believes the discovery of Hogan's remains proves the Distant Origon theory; Gegen's family usually mates with the family of Towt, but Gegen tells Veer that traditions are meant to be broken; Gegen is charged with heresy against doctrine; he recants his theory after Odala threatens to put him and the Voyager crew in a detention colony for the rest of their lives; after he retracts his claim regarding the Distant Origin theory, he is reassigned to the area of metallurgical analysis. (Distant Origin)

Gigahertz - The security teams sets their hand phasers to a dispersion frequency of 1.85 gigahertz so that they can disrupt the intruder's cloaking technology. (Distant Origin)

Hadrosaur - This is one of the creatures that Janeway and the Doctor view on the holodeck when they are trying to find an ancestor common to humans and Veer; it was the most highly evolved cold-blooded creature of the Eryops; it vanished when a mass extinction occurred at the end of the Cretaceous Period. (Distant Origin)

Haluk (Marshall R. Teague) - Haluk is in charge of the Voth ship that captures Voyager. (Distant Origin)

Heresy - Gegen is charged with heresy against doctrine by the Ministry of Elders. (Distant Origin)

Hogan - Gegen and Veer find Hogan's remains and find that it is a genetic match to their race; he believes that the discovery of Hogan's remains is the most important discovery in Voth history because it proves his distant origin theory; Hogan's bone decalcification indicates that he died more than a year before Gegen and Veer discover his remains; they analyzed every micron of his skeleton and determined that it is authentic. (Distant Origin)

Hokath - Gegen comments that since Hogan's remains lacked a dilitus lobe, he doubts the species that they have discovered would have enjoyed the sulfur lagoons at Hokath since they probably only had a rudimentary sense of smell. (Distant Origin)

Human - Gegen determines that the race of endotherms on Voyager call themselves human; Gegen says that humans must rely on crude verbal interplay as part of their mating behavior; Gegen says that his races DNA has 47 genetic markers identical to those found in human DNA; the Voth believe that mammalian species such as humans are lower life forms. (Distant Origin)

Interphase - The force field on the bridge disrupt Gegen and Veer's interphase so that they are unable to transport back to their own ship. (Distant Origin)

Mess Hall - The Mess Hall is located in Section 13. (Distant Origin)

Ministry of Elders - After they discover Hogan's remains, Gegen wants to go directly to the Ministry of Elders in order to get a fleet of Voth ships to comb the sector; when the Ministry hears of his discovery, they seize his research and charge him with heresy against doctrine. (Distant Origin)

Nekrit Expanse - Near the Nekrit Expanse, Gegen and Veer learn of a ship called Voyager that has a group of explorers claiming to be from the other side of the galaxy. (Distant Origin)

Odala (Concetta Tome) - Odala presides over Gegen's heresy hearing; she accuses him of using the Distant Origin theory to attack and undermine the guiding principals of Voth society and wants him to retract his claims. (Distant Origin)

Paris Alpha 249 - Paris uses this command code to access manual override on the weapons systems after the Voth are able to disable all of Voyager's systems. (Distant Origin)

Phaser - The security teams sets their hand phasers to a dispersion frequency of 1.85 gigahertz so that they can disrupt the intruder's cloaking technology. (Distant Origin)

Phase variance - Kim detects a highly localized modulating phase variance on the bridge; he believes that this phase variance is some sort of cloaking technology. (Distant Origin)

Replicator - Gegen says that the molecular structure in the clothing they found along with Hogan's remains indicate that his race has replication technology. (Distant Origin)

Spatial displacement - Gegen and Veer are able to transport on to Voyager undetected when they use spatial displacement to keep themselves out of phase. (Distant Origin)

Towt - Gegen's family usually mates with the family of Towt. (Distant Origin)

Transwarp - Gegen's ship has transwarp capabilities. (Distant Origin)

USS Voyager - When Gegen and Veer do an analysis of Hogan's uniform, they find a microscopic identification code which they determine is the name of a vessel called Voyager; near the Nekrit expanse they hear about a ship called Voyager which has a group of explorers claiming to be from the other side of the galaxy; they acquire a cannister of Voyager's warp plasma; Gegen and Veer catch up with Voyager and determine that there are 148 life forms on board; Gegen observes that Voyager has a hierarchical social structure with clear differences in status and rank; Voyager is boarded and captured by the Voth; Odala tells Gegen that Voyager will be destroyed unless he retracts his claims regarding the Distant Origin theory. (Distant Origin)

Veer, Tova (Christopher Liam Moore) - Gegen's assistant; Gegen and Veer find Hogan's remains; Veer continues to work with Gegen even though he knows he is putting his career at risk; Veer is attracted to Frola and his scales have a tint to them whenever she is around; Veer is captured in the Mess Hall after Tuvok stuns him with a phaser; he goes into a protective hibernation in which his heart rate and body temperature drop and his metabolism almost shuts down; Veer was initiated into the Circle of Archaeology with the highest of honors; he has been Gegen's assistant for 6 years; Veer is pressured in to betraying Gegen by claiming that the professor's theory is flawed and invalid. (Distant Origin)

Voth - Gegen believes that the discovery of Hogan's remains is the most important discovery in Voth history because it proves his Distant Origin theory; Gegen says that since Hogan's remains share 47 genetic markers with the Voth race that they are related and that both races evolved on the same planet; Gegen believes that the Voth originated on Earth and left Earth when they developed spacefaring technology; the Voth consider mammals to be a lower life form. (Distant Origin)
