Marayna (Sandra Nelson) - Kim falls in love with this holodeck character; she is tall, athletic, and blond; she is one of the entertainment directors in the luau holodeck program; she gives hydrosailing lessons; she learns how to play Kal-toh because she thought Tuvok might enjoy having an opponent; she appears in Tuvok's quarters after he shuts down the program; Marayna appeared on the holodeck the day Voyager arrived at the inversion nebula; the alien in the ship in the nebula is using Marayna as an interface to interact with the Voyager crew. Shon- ha'lock - Tuvok tells Kim that he is experiencing shon'ha'lock, or the "engulfment"; it is similar to love at first sight; it is the most intense and psychologically perilous form of love. (Alter Ego)

Soolak - A Vulcan term for a third party who by his own disinterest trivializes another's. Tuvok says that Neelix was acting as Soolak when he didn't know who Marayna was. (Alter Ego)

Subspace signal - On the holodeck, Torres detects some sort of subspace signal coming from the inversion nebula; she traces the uplink to a hidden ship in the nebula. (Alter Ego)

T'an - Marayna attempts to create a spatial balance by placing the T'an on opposite sides of the Kal-toh; Tuvok says that this move is common among novice Kal-toh players and it is a strategy that will most certainly fail since Kal-toh is not about striving for balance but about finding the seeds of order even in the midst of profound chaos.
