Mary Graham is the former Executive Director and one of two co-founders of
S.A.F.E. in Canada and is a former Manager employed by Spectrum (Borderline
personality disorder) program in Victoria, Australia.
Mary has had over 20 years of involvement with mental health organisations. This
includes outpatients, acute inpatient, crisis centres and emergency departments.
Eventually Mary received treatment which was effective.
Mary was eager to use her experiences to assist others who self-abuse to a more
rapid and respectful recovery. Out of this, in 1990, the S.A.F.E. program was
developed with Mary being instrumental in its development and maintenance.
Mary has appeared several times on television and radio shows (national). She
has spoken to over 500 groups in Canada, including mental health facilities,
schools and universities.
Mary has run over 600 workshops, including 400 in 1999 and 2000 in New Zealand
and Australia. She has established S.A.F.E. programs in several different
centres in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
Mary has overcome her desire to self-abuse and now shares her knowledge and
experience with professionals, consumers and family members through workshops
and one-on-one sessions.
Mary Graham enables those attending these workshops to understand the experience
of clients as they work towards their goal of changing.
