Their Story

The townland of Ballymacool is "Village of the Coyles". However we do not know from where these Coyles came. Hugh Coyle (1843-?) emigrated from Ireland and married Sarah White (1844-1918) in Philadelphia where they had eight children: James, Margaret, Sarah, Charles, Katie, Mary, Francis and Nellie. (Sarah White's parents came from Ireland.)

-Coyle daughters Katie (1876) and Mary (1877) married McLaughlin brothers, John and Francis. Their story is recounted on the McLaughlin page of this website.

-Charles Coyle (1874) married Mary Murray. their children were Mary Elizabeth, who married James McBride, and S. Margaret, who married Francis Mellon.

The McBride offspring are F. Gertrude, Elizabeth, James, Marie, Margaret and Joseph. Marie McBride married John Russo. Their daughter, Joan Russo, married Alan Speaker. Gert McBride married John Delaney; their children are Francine, John, Michael and Terrance.

The Mellons' children are Bud, Charlie, Peggy, Watty and Tom. The family lived in the Art Museum area of central Philadelphia in the house where Frank Mellon was born. He was a Batallion Chief in the Fire Department.

-Sarah Marie married Frank Lister with whom she had four children; William, Frank, George, Charles S. and Raymond.

-we have no information on Francis (1878), Margaret (1870), James (1869) and Nellie (1881).
