Laslo: "In this
night a storm has raged over Desmond hall. A storm so violent that it seemed all
the elements of nature were in combat. A terrifying conspiracy of violence and
destruction. A battle also rages on the earth beneath. One man has been driven
to destroy. He's a victim of a curse. A curse that compels him to
kill."
In his bedroom at
Desmond Hall Jean Paul stands and looks at his hand. 'The mark it's gone. But it
will return, it will return and I will kill again.' Jean Paul thinks to himself
silently. 'Annie, Annie you will haunt me as long as I live. Jean Paul picks up
a pair of shears. "As long as I
live? There is a way." Jean Paul says pointing the shears towards his heart.
"No!" he says lowering them. "I can't do it. I can't do it. I should die but I
can't. I want to live, I want to live." He looks away to his reflection. "But
how? The girl is dead, Annie is dead. There's only one thing left to do." He
walks through his bedroom. "Raxl, Raxl!" he calls out. There is a knock at the door. "Mr.
Desmond?" Jean Paul turns and looks
at the door. "Who is it?" "Emily
Blair. I heard you calling. Is there anything I can do?" "No. No."
"Are you sure
you're all right?" "Yes, yes I'm
all right. Go back to your room."
Emily opens the
door. "The electricity is back on. Wouldn't you like some light?" Emily asks
reaching for the switch. "No, I
prefer the darkness. Don't turn on the light." "I'm sorry to burst in but you sounded
upset." "I'm fine, I was calling my
housekeeper that's all. Would you call her for me." "Yes I will, goodnight." Emily tells him
closing the door behind her.
"Goodnight." Jean Paul says looking at the door. He walks over to the
door and leans on it. "Stay away from me Emily please. Oh please stay away from
me."
Laslo and Holly
come through the front door at Desmond Hall. "There the lights are on again."
Laslo says as he helps with Holly's scarf and coat. "And you're home." Holly glances at Laslo. "You didn't have
to come and get me at Irene’s."
"Nonsense. Did you
have a nice visit?" Laslo asks hanging Holly's coat on the coat rack. "It was very pleasant." She says
as she walks a few steps away from Laslo touching the necklace. "But I fell
asleep there. Was I asleep when you came in?" Holly asks. "You were. No nightmares I hope? You
were sound asleep." Laslo says walking up to Holly. "Yes I dreamed that I heard a
voice."
"A voice?" Laslo
asks. "Yes." Holly says fingering
the necklace around her neck..
"What did the voice
say?" "I don't remember. I think I
better go upstairs now. I'm very tired." Holly says walking away from
Laslo. Laslo follows her.
"Holly?"
"Yes." Holly
answers. "Whose voice was it?" "I think it was Irene’s. She was
probably talking to you." "You
don't remember what she said?" Laslo asks.
"No I just remember a sound of a voice. It seemed to come from so far
away. But I don't remember what she said." Holly says looking away from Laslo
trying to remember. She touches her head. "I suddenly feel so strange." "You need sleep, you'll feel rested in
the morning." "Holly that pendant
around your neck." Laslo says to her.
"Pendant?" "Yes. Have I seen
it before?" "Holly lifts it up.
"Yes, it's mine. I wear it all the time." Holly turns and slowly walks up the
staircase. Laslo watches her.
In his darkened
bedroom Jean Paul sits in a chair.
"You wanted me Master? Raxl asks.
"Yes." Jean Paul says not moving and staring straight ahead. "It has
happened." "I know." Raxl says
walking over to him. "I could see from your face." "Tonight I killed. A serving girl who
came to the house. I murdered her."
"Where
Master?" "She didn't have to die,
she didn't need to die." "Where?"
Raxl asks again. Jean Paul looks
away. "In the Gate House by the cliff road."
Raxl turns to
go. "Raxl!" "Yes Master?" "I couldn't fight off the curse. She
asked me to help her, and the pity I felt for her turned to evil. Death!" Jean
Paul says standing and walking away from Raxl. "She returned to the house alone.
I went with her. No one knows."
"Quito and I will provide."
"It'll happen again!" Jean Paul says getting upset. "You will be protected Master. Listen to
me, you will not be discovered."
"There is only one way to free myself from this curse. There's one way to
end it." Jean Paul turns and looks at Raxl. "I must die. I must die it is the
only way." "No." Raxl shakes her
head. "I have no choice." "It is not you who kills Master, it's
the evil power that guide your hands."
"Then I will not be subject to this power. I would rather end in a quiet
grave." Jean Paul says walking away from Raxl. "Grave?" "I tried to kill myself tonight. I
couldn't do it. Others must do it for me."
"Others?" "You Raxl." Jean
Paul says turning to Raxl. "You must kill me." "Never. Never Master." "Then I must surrender myself to the
police. I am a murderer." "Raxl
shakes her head no. "No, you cannot. You must not. This curse can be ended. I
have powers left on Maljardin, we must go back there Master. We must return to
Maljardin so I may have a chance to save you!"
"And if you
can't?" "There will be no one there
to kill. You will be safe. If we return to the Island alone you, Quito and I. No
one else will be allowed to come near. Quito and I will take care of you,
protect you. I will find a way to end this curse. Oh you must allow this Master.
Please you must give me a chance to save you." "No!" Jean Paul turns his head away from
Raxl. "You are an innocent man. You
did not mean to kill. It was not you who took the life of that girl." Jean Paul walks away from Raxl. Raxl
turns and looks at Jean Paul "Master believe me, listen to me. You are an
innocent man!" "I am a murderer!"
Jean Paul shouts. "These hands went around a girl's neck and chocked the life
out of her." Jean Paul looks away. "She will be found in the morning, Her
lifeless body and someone will be blamed. I want it to be me." Jean Paul starts
sobbing. "No, no we must have
time." Raxl says walking to Jean Paul. "Quito and I will attend to the girl. She
will not be found." Jean Paul turns
towards Raxl. "On one condition, one condition. If I can not be spared from the
curse I must be destroyed. If I cannot resist the urge to kill, you and Quito
must kill me." Jean Paul says walking away from Raxl. "Kill you?" Raxl asks. "I can only accept your offer on that
one condition." Jean Paul says turning towards Raxl. Raxl walks up to him. "Master if I can
not save you I will destroy you. I swear it." Raxl bows her head. Holly is in her room looking at her
pendant when she hears a voice calling her." "Holly, Holly hear me." Irene calls
out to her. "I hear you." "Hear my voice and listen to my words.
You must come to me again." "I must
come to you again." Holly says staring straight ahead. She starts walking across
the room. "I must come to you again."
Irene sits at a
table in her cottage. She has Holly's compact surrounded by candles at her
alter. 'You must join me in the circle. The eternal circle of fire. The circle
which cannot be broken.' Irene stares into the candle flame. 'You must hear me
and obey . Obey Holly in flames of light. In flames of purity you must help
us!' "I must help you." Holly
says. 'To destroy the life.' "To destroy the life." Holly
repeats. 'Of Jean Paul Desmond'
Irene tells her. Holly picks up the
pendant from around her neck holding it in her hand. "To destroy the life of
Jean Paul Desmond." She kisses the pendant.
Quito and Raxl are
in the woods. Raxl holds a lantern as Quito digs a grave for Annie's body. "When
you are done you must cover the ground with leaves. There must be no trace of
this grave." Quito nods his head. "This is the last time you will have to do
this before we go back to Maljardin. This must be done so we can end this curse.
But if I fail you understand what must be done?" Quito shakes his head no. "We must destroy the Master." Raxl says
looking away from Quito. "We must dig his grave and bury him in the earth, as we
have buried the dead tonight." Quito looks at Raxl then at the
grave. "We must do it together you
and I."
Ada and Laslo are
in the Drawing Room. Laslo is sitting in a chair. "Go to bed Ada." Ada stands next to him. "I want to talk
with you. Where is Philip? Why doesn't he wire us or send us a letter? Laslo do
you know where Philip is?"
Laslo looks at Ada
as there is a knock on the door.
"Come in." Ada calls out.
"Who is it?" Laslo
asks. The door opens "It's Jean
Paul." he says. "Not yet asleep
cousin?" Laslo asks. "I have
something to tell you. I'm leaving Desmond Hall tomorrow." "Leaving?" Ada asks. "Yes, I must. I'm going back to
Maljardin. Raxl and Quito are going back with me." "And Holly?" Laslo asks. "I would like her to remain here." "We shall be honored." Laslo says. "Must you go?" asks Ada. "I'm afraid I must. There are affairs
that have to be settled. The rebuilding and other matters." "You've been here hardly any time at
all." Ada says to him.
"Jean Paul must
make his own decision. Don't pester him Ada. As I have said you needn't worry
about the Desmond interests here, I shall attend to them." Laslo tells Jean
Paul. "Will you?" "With your permission." Laslo replies
standing up. "Now if you'll excuse me it's late. Come along Ada." Laslo says
walking out of the room. Ada looks
at Jean Paul. "I know I feel you haven't enjoyed your visit here." Jean Paul takes her hand. "No Ada I
have." "But this is your house. I
know Cort can be rude and you and Laslo don't know each other. If either of them
have done anything to..." "Oh no,
no no. No one here has done anything."
"I thought we could
bring back the old days we used to have. Don't leave me Jean Paul. I need you, I
need someone." Laslo walks back
into the room. "Ada."
Ada lets Jean
Paul's hand go. "Yes coming." Jean
Paul grabs both of Ada's hands. "We'll say our goodbye in the morning." "Yes." Ada says then turns
away.
"Come along dear."
Laslo says leading her out of the room.
Jean Paul walks to the fireplace. He looks up. "So you are winning your
victory Jacques Eloi Des Mondes." Jean Paul walks away as Jacques starts
laughing. His image appears in the flames.
Jean Paul walks up
to Holly's room. "Leaving? But I
don't want you to leave. Jean Paul I want you to stay here at Desmond Hall. I'm
making friends like you said I would. I have a feeling that something unusual
and exciting is going to happen to me here." Holly is sitting at her dressing
table. "Holly I'm glad. But I must
go back to Maljardin." "But I can't
go back there. Oh Jean Paul I don't want to return to Maljardin!" "No you don't have to." Jean Paul says
touching Holly's shoulder. "You're going to stay here." "Alone?" "Ada will look after you." "I mean without you." "Yes. That's the way things must be for
a time." "For how long?" Holly
asks. "I don't know." "But you promised. You promised I could
go with you wherever you went."
"But not Maljardin. Holly you must never go back there again." "Neither should you." "I must." Holly turns away from Jean
Paul.
"Holly, look try to
understand." Jean Paul says as he holds her shoulders. "I don't understand. You were protecting
me like a father, now you say you've got to go and leave me." Jean Paul walks around Holly's chair.
"Holly look you'll always be provided for." he says squatting next to her. "I don't want to be provided for. I
want..." Holly holds the pendant and stands up. "I don't know what I want." She
says then walks to the window. "I don't know what I want anymore. But I do know
I don't want to live in this house without you." Holly says looking at Jean
Paul. "I know Ada is kind but that Laslo he makes me feel..." Jean Paul nods. "I understand. Would you
be happier staying with Irene?"
"Irene?" Jean Paul stands
and walks over to Holly. "Yes would you like that?" "Yes." "Good. We'll talk about it in the
morning." Jean Paul says then kisses Holly on the forehead. "I'll speak to her.
Goodnight." Jean Paul opens Holly's door, he turns and looks at Holly. "Holly I
wouldn't leave you if I didn't think you will be cared for." Jean Paul walks out
of the room closing the door behind him.
"With Irene. With Irene" Holly says smiling. "Holly well done." Irene's voice says to
her.
"Yes I'll be with
you soon."
Jean Paul is
standing in his room. He picks up the carousel. "Yes I remember it all now
Philip. We were so close as brothers." He puts the carousel down and walks
around the room. "This visit has brought it all back to me. Philip I don't know
if I can ever see you again. I never want you to see this face again! Because it
is a face of a murderer! " Jean Paul stares in shock at the mirror in the room.
Writing starts appearing. STAY HELP are the words on the mirror, "Philip!
Philip!" Jean Paul calls out.
