Gamespy
A little playtime, however, and you'll realize that Galactic Civilizations is more aptly compared to another strategy classic -- Sid Meier's Civilization. While Galactic Civilizations isn't in the same league as that classic, it is one of the most enjoyable turn-based strategy titles I've played in a while.

Three way review on a MOO3 fan site (expanding out). 2 out of 3 liked it! An excellent review providing many varied point of views on the game.

But regardless of whether or not you're sci-fi fan, the outer-space setting isn't the real reason you should sit up and take notice. Galactic Civilizations' strong AI, robust diplomacy, and variety of strategic options make it an outstanding turn-based strategy game.
Calamity Web
This is one of the few games that i actually buy, it was worth every penny...

Gamers looking for twitch action or a strategy game with a strong emphasis on combat might be disappointed, but gamers who prefer to meticulously oversee things rather than execute them directly have something to look forward to. Galactic Civilizations is extremely polished in every respect and is easily one of the best 4X games to come out in a long while.
Games Domain
What makes Wardell's game stand out from other recent 4X space empire games is a blend of simplicity and depth. It's reminiscent of the first two releases in the Civilization series, in part because it has the comely character of a board game. Just about everything you could ask for is here, although it is dished out in easily digestible chunks so you don't choke on an overload of information.

GalCiv is definitely worth looking into for all space based strategy fans.

...at the end of the day it all comes back to how fun the game is. In this area, Galactic Civilizations gets a resounding thumbs up, and by combining a clean interface and simplified management with robust gameplay and excellent AI, Stardock has created an easily accessible, though incredibly complex, game of space conquest.
Entertainment Depot
In their latest release, Stardock has created a title that, while not perfect, is able to welcome newcomers to the genre and still be enjoyable to old pros.
