BEFORE STARTING ANY FITNESS PROGRAM
Before starting ANY fitness program you should get checked-out by a medical professional. You want to get a complete and thorough physical for baseline medical information such as cholesterol, body fat, weight, blood pressure, etc. If you are over forty (like me), include an EKG and stress test in your physical.
Listen to your body and rest when you need to. Keep in mind that intense workouts plus needed rest will equal maximum results.
Give yourself enough time to reach your goal. Don't go for broke !!
Make sure your goal is realistic and one that you can achieve.
Ease into the program. At the onset, mix running with walking.
Stay consistent and stick to your schedule/plan. Don't run on off days.
Take the time to put together a running program/plan.
Buddy-up with someone at your fitness level with the same goal(s). Then work together to achieve them.
Before you start running, warm-up with stretching. When finished, cool down by either walking or stretching.
