Floating Selvedge

A floating selvedge is pretty straightforward to set up. Add the selvedge thread(s) about 2-3 dents outside your outermost warp thread.  Do not thread it through a heddle, but do pull it through a dent.  You can weight the selvedges independently - pennies, washers, whatever will be heavy enough to hold them in place, or beam it onto the beam with the rest of the warp.  When you open a shed, the floating selvedge will sit in the middle of the shed. The way I use them, on the rare occasions I do, is to go over the selvedge with the shuttle when entering the shed and come out under the floating selvedge when exiting the shed.  This rhythm will quickly become pretty simple and your selvedges will catch in plain weave order.
