Tying On To A Previous Warp
========================

>I would appreciate more detail on how you tie on the new warp.
>Do you do it on a sectional beam with a tension box?

  If you plan to warp sectionally, you would cut the last of your warp so that it still goes through the reed and the heddles with some left over in back of the heddles for tying on the new warp.  You need to secure the warp left on the loom both in front of the reed so it doesn't pull through, and in back of the heddles so that it is not going to fall out before you have beamed on.

  Next wind your new warp onto the sectional beam.  Once that is done, bring the warp up over the back beam and tie it onto the old warp one end at a time.  I use a square knot as I am not going to apply any tension to these knots, but you could also use a weaver's knot if you preferred.  Once all the ends are attached to each other, gently coax the knots through the heddles and then through the reed.  Tie the new warp to the front apron rod and you are all set to weave again.

  Rewarping this way, your loom will be set up with the same pattern as whatever was on the loom before.  If you wish to vary the pattern, you can treadle in a different order, or change your tie ups.
