One of my favorite pass times.... solving puzzles... Be it mathematical, lateral thinking, analytical or any type...

Sharing with you some of the puzzles..

Lateral Thinking

What is lateral thinking?

A simple way of explaining "lateral thinking" is thinking in a different perspective. Lets take an example:

Q. If one egg takes 5 minutes to boil, how much time will it take to boil 3 eggs?

 A. The immediate answer that would come is 15 minutes. Isn't that what you had guessed? If not, you are a good lateral thinker :-) The answer to this is it took just 5 minutes to boil 3 eggs. How? Can't it be boiled together?

Lets solve a few puzzles of this kind (For Answers click here)

1. Three switches outside a windowless room are connected to three light bulbs inside the room. How can you determine which switch is connected to which bulb if you are only allowed to enter the room once?

2. What comes once in June, once in July and twice in August?

3. Whilst in a balloon floating stationary over the southern coast of India, I dropped two wine bottles over the side. If one was empty and the other full, which hit the ground first?

4. In a race, if you overtake  a person in second place, What position are you in?

5. In a race, if you overtake the last person, what position are you in?

6. A father and a son meet with an accident. Father dies on the spot. Son is taken to nearest hospital. The doctor sees him and says "I can't operate him. He is my son."

7. One day Kerry celebrated her birthday. Two days later her older twin brother, Terry, celebrated his birthday. How come?

8. Not far from Madrid, there is a large wooden barn. The barn is completely empty except for a dead man hanging from the middle of the central rafter. The rope around his neck is ten feet long and his feet are three feet off the ground. The nearest wall is 20 feet away from the man. It is not possible to climb up the walls or along the rafters. The man hanged himself. How did he do it?
