Pictured during the road run to Stanway House on the occasion of the 2003 GWR Steam & Vintage Gala at Toddington in Gloucestershire is Aveling & Porter AC6 Traction Engine 'Queen Victoria'. Rated at 6 NHP this engine was new in 1899 to Mounce & Heyward of Lifton Devon. It was later in the sole ownership of V Mounce before being passed to WL Barrett of Albaston. The engine is a convertible machine fitted with Aveling & Porters early overhead slide valve design of cylinder block. Works number 4255 has been in the ownership of Mike Hynd since 1970 and is a much travelled engine. It is seen here in the charge of Douglas Hynd. |
