What robot collector DOESN'T like combiners? Looking... looking over the crowd... hey, YOU OVER THERE PUTTING YOUR HAD UP! WHO ARE YOU! Aaaaaahhhhhh... you collect Beanie Babies. Wow, people still do that? Whatever. Ok, so you're wondering what the big deal is. Eeeeeeeaaaaaasy people... don't look at this poor, naive soul like that. They just know not what sacrilege they hath stated. So what, you wonder, is the big deal about merging robots? Let us count the ways!
1. Biiiiiiiiiiiiig and baaaaaaaad! We're not gonna go there with the 'size does matter' thing. But when it comes to gestalts, big is VERY cool. Case in point is the Ultra-Megazord from the first Power Rangers line. Ah, but it's not just a big, 12" tall chunk o' robot. That's too boring. The key is to take a LOT of 'bots and have them merge into something MASSIVE. Anyone can take five vehicles and slam them together. But taking a merging 'bot... and a dragon... and a transport that looks like a Brachiasaurus on steroids and have ALL OF THEM merge? Oh yeah!
2. Accessories, accessories, accessories! Being massive doesn't mean much if you're fighting the bad guys with toothpicks. Remember Voltron and his Blazing Sword? Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehe! But let's push this. The INDIVIDUALS vehicles/robots also have to pack lots of extras. Daltanius and Computron are great examples of merging 'bots that are SERIOUSLY equipped! Woohoo!
3. Cool forms. VW Bugs merging into a giant robot? Lame. A bunch of piggies merging into a MASSIVE piggie? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! ON the other hand, take a battleship, aircraft carrier, and a transport, like Tidal Wave? NOW you got something.
4. Lots and lots and LOTS of possibilities. Want a giant robot? Check. Want an army of robots to beat up on the bad guys? Check. Want lots of vehicles to blow-up the Evil Doers? Check. Soooooooooo many options and so little time to play. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
