Dr. Doom - Mavel Select, ToyBiz
Meat and Potatoes; 5.0
Perks; 5.0
Homer Facor; 5.0
Description; another shot at the ruler of Latvaria.

Marvel Select's shot at Dr. Doom is 7" of MASSIVE dictator.  The figure sports multiple points of articulation in his trade-mark armor and cloak.

Doom comes with a removable cloak, pistol that fits in his holster, extra hand holding a goblet of wine, and his throne.
'Um... dude, didn't you already do this?'  Well, not quite.  Ya see, the last one was for Marvel Legends.  A good figure, but well... as I mentioned in my review, this version of Doom could have used a bit more heft.  And if there's anything the Sovereign of Latvaria should have, is heft!  Well, the folks at Marvel Select apparently felt SOMETHING, because they decided to put out their own version of Doc Doom... at the heft price-point of almost $20.  Ouch!  So, why should you bother getting this one?  Actually, there are a LOT of reasons to snag this version of Doom.

Meat and potatoes are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal good.  Ok, the articulation COULD be a bit better; you've got ball-joints in the shoulders, joints at the hips, knees, elbows, et al.  Granted, you don't have the mega-amount of joints like
Silver Centurion Iron Man, but you'll manage.  The figure has more then enough for a number of posing possibilities.  The sculpting on the figure is the key!  The problem with Legends Doom hit me; it doesn't look like he's wearing armor.  The Legends piece looks like he's had silver paint sprayed on him, or he's wearing silver nylons.  Yeah, reeeeeeeeeeeeeal intimidating!  But on this version, there are a number of panel lines sculpted on the limbs and at the joints, giving the figure the look that this is armor... biiiiiiiiig, baaaaaaaaad armor!  It also doesn't hurt that this figure is 7" tall, a full head taller then Iron Man.

Perks... wow!  Ok, basic stuff; he still comes with a pistol that slips into a holster, a spare hand holding a goblet of wine, and the cape is removable.  A HUGE improvement on the cape is the material used is much softer then the plastic on the Legends piece.  This cape drapes much better and flaps almost like cloth, giving a much more realistic look and feel.  Oh, and then there's the throne.  Yep, he comes with his throne!  Nicely sculpted to look like dark wood, a few steps so he's sitting above the masses, even a pair of banners flanking the throne and the crest of Latvaria over everything!  Oh, and Doom can sit on it!  Sweeeeeet!

Homer factor?  Very high for me.  Sure, the Legends figure was well done, but it seemed to lack a few things.  Nothing major, but just little details that just didn't seem right.

Well, ToyBiz made up for them.  Do you HAVE to get this figure?  It really depends.  If you enjoy your Legends Doom, you'll live without this one.  Hey, that figure was VERY well done.  However, if you're looking for something that's got a little more 'oomph', something that tends to look DOWN at every other figure on your shelf... you'll LOVE this one.  Now kiss the ring and begone.
