London Day preparation

Workers who make a “real difference to the capital” are to be honoured later this year as Ken Livingstone designates July 3rd as "London Day".

It has been a year since Ken Livingstone became Mayor of London, and to celebrate the anniversary, “London Day” will provide a platform for him to thank all the people who have helped make a difference to life in London.

Sponsorship is being sought and the Greater London Authority is to confirm a central London venue to hold the event.

Harrow School opens up

There will be exclusive viewing for Londoners as Carlton chooses to show a documentary on Harrow School only in the London region.

After two months behind the scenes access at the famous school, the documentary series aims to represent the reality of life for Harrow pupils. Featuring all aspects of school life, the programme includes an intimate portrait of new boy's first day, and also the rehearsals for the school play.

The success of reality based documentaries have proved to be a popular format since the enormous audience response to the earlier terrestrial broadcast of “Driving School” and “The Cruise”. However, these programmes borrowed the concept from previous shows on satellite channels, such as the MTV production of “The Real World,” where a number of people get to live in a flat and have cameras document their daily lives.

“Harrow the School on the Hill” is an eight part documentary about one of Britain's most famous and elusive schools. The series aims to generate a genuine insight into the school. An institution which has taught seven Prime Ministers and has four centuries of history will be revealed and broadcast on Carlton May 8 at 7.30pm.
