SPENCER

ADOPTED 8/7/02 - DIED 5/10/04

Spencer was found as a stray in Massachusetts. CockerPals Rescue went to the shelter one day to pick up another cocker and was asked to take Spencer also (he was known as Snoopy then). She said yes and off went Spencer to CockerPals Rescue. I saw his picture posted on Petfinder and fell in love with his sweet little face. I had been looking for another cocker to keep my buff cocker, Hannah, company. I filled out the application and Joan called me the next day. We set up a date and time for Spencer and I to meet, which was August 7, 2002. I counted the minutes until that day arrived! When I saw Spencer walking up my sidewalk that day, my heart melted and I knew he was the right dog for us. Spencer was a cute black and white cocker and he had the most apprehensive adorable look on his face. He was a bit shy but he and Hannah took to each other right away and he seemed comfortable here.

Joan and I talked and decided it was a good fit all the way around. Spencer was mine!! He was shy, thin, and his hair was chopped off. Sort of a cute funny looking little guy. Within months he filled out and grew a luxurious coat of fur. Spencer had a proud air about him. He was quiet and shy, sometimes aloof. Yet he was very loving and gentle.

A friend described him beautifully..."Spencer always seemed to beam a sense of dignity that transcended his canine state. There was something majestic about him..."

This is Spencer!

Spencer was loved and admired by those who never even met him personally. He had a way of captivating hearts.

Spencer brought more than love, happiness, and companionship into my life...he brought me wonderful friends in rescue as well as 3 more rescue adoptees from Cocker Pals! We will introduce them later.

In January 2003, I noticed Spencer's lymph nodes were enlarged so I took him to the vet. My worst fears were confirmed, Spencer was diagnosed with lymphoma. I got him the best care and he faught a brave and courageous battle against this disease for the next 15 months. Spencer went to Rainbow Bridge on May 10, 2004 peacefully in my arms. His love and memory will live on in my heart forever.

Here are some of my favorite photos of Spencer

This is Spencer and Hannah. I got Hannah as a pup at 8 weeks old. She and Spencer were the best of pals and spent a lot of time together.

This is Spencer and Mollie. I adopted Mollie from CockerPals Rescue in March 2003. She was only 15 months old and an owner turn in to a shelter in NY. Mollie is a petite cocker, very loving and gentle.

This is Spencer and Maya. I adopted Maya from CockerPals Rescue also. She was 6 months old when she came to me in July 2003, an owner turn in for reasons unknown to me. Maya is a playful, happy, loving girl. She and Spencer would romp for hours together.

This is Sophie. I adopted Sophie from CockerPals Rescue in July 2004. Sophie never got to meet Spencer. She was known as Sweet Pea and was blind from cataracts when rescue first got her. With the generosity of many supporters, Sophie was able to have surgery and has her sight back now. She's a happy, loving little girl and can be very fiesty when the mood strikes her!
