We sat on the beach
for our last time
we watched the sun rise
won't ever see it set
felt your hand clenched to mine
sweaty and shaking
couldn't figure it out
what was wrong?
I saw tears hanging
and streaming down your face
your mouth curled
holding in the screams
I began to understand
what the problem was
I felt a pain as if
something burrowed into my belly
my arms hardly moved
my hands painted black
your face fading
your cries not heard
I finally got it
I knew what was wrong
me, too blind to see
the pain you went through
I feel it now
I know your pain
you give it back to me
exactly what I deserve.
