Welcome to Roger Leone's webpage...

(Updated November 2007)

This first page contains photos taken on my 1994 trip to Alaska. The originals of these are 35mm slides. They were scanned on an HP 3670 flatbed scanner that belongs to Chi Tat. She wanted to get a scanner so when I took her to Circuit City to shop for one I suggested she get one that would scan slides and negatives. These images are a test of its abilities.

  • On the way to Alaska I stopped to see some friends in Tokeland, Washington. It is on the coast.

Cranberries are grown in this area. This shot shows some of the bogs with harvesting under way.

Here is a view of the Alaska-Canada Highway. It is two lane blacktop, winding through the countryside for thousands of miles.

The highway is all paved except for some areas under repair.

I made this trip in late September/early October 1994. I didn't want to go during the peak summer season when there would be too many people and vehicles. This pass in Canada already had some snow.

Another view along the route, in the Canadian Yukon. Kluane Lake and the Kluane Range are in the distance.

This is a view looking north toward Fairbanks. The city is lost in the haze.

This is in Denali (Mt McKinley) National Park. It was pretty much deserted and I had the campground to myself. In spite of the sunny appearance, it was very cold there and all of my water froze over night. Thanks to the internet, I was able to access weather information for Denali for the days I was there. The overnight low was only 22 degrees. It felt colder when I got out of my sleeping bag.

Leaving Denali NP, with standing water starting to thaw.

This is south of Anchorage on the highway to Seward. I didn't make it all the way to Seward and I spent the night at the Portage Glacier State Park. In spite of its cold appearance, the proximity of the Pacific Ocean made it relatively warm there.

This is another glacier on the road to Valdez (pronounced val-deez).

    * I have completed the process of moving my old web page here, with some changes. Most recently, I added a counter to keep track of visits to this page. The previous addition was an email link that uses a java script to conceal my address.

If you would like me to restore any of the deleted items or pages, of if you would like me to send you the full size images of any pictures (the ones on these pages are reduced in size/resolution) let me know. Also, let me know if you want to get the java script for email. There are more changes coming, so check back from time to time.

I have more space here than I did on Inreach, so I will have room for more stuff. But Yahoo/Geocities' free webspace comes with advertising as you probably noticed. To get rid of it I would have to pay a monthly fee.
