BEIJING - So much could have gone wrong over the past 16 days.
The hazy air that defined the first two days of competition could have hung over these Olympics like shenzhen splendid china a cloud of china global environmental concepts doom. The stabbing death of an American tourist on Day 2 could have ushered a feeling of mistrust between Beijingers and their Olympic guests. But none of that happened. Indeed, while China's gravest problems were displayed to the world, so were its collective soul, ingenuity and national pride.
