Rob Langley - Leeds, UK-based musician |
Hello. My name is Rob and I am 21 years old. I live in Hyde Park, in Leeds, West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. I taught myself to play the guitar several years ago and have since taken it onstage in both Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (near my hometown of Washington) as the lead vocalist/guitarist/main songriter/producer of blues-pop outfit This Week's Name, and in Leeds (where I am currently studying music) as guitarist/blues harpist/sometime vocalist/co-writer/co-producer in our psychedelic folk/prog-pop band Hyde Park Times. I have also played as part of Algerian rai band Feluka, during which time I travelled the country playing at various large gigs and small festivals (at one point as support act for the Peatbog Faeries, and later on the same bill as Chumbawamba). My final performance with Feluka was on behalf of South Asian Arts and in conjunction with Leeds College of Music and BBC Radio Leeds, and will in part be aired on that station this January. I have also at different times played jazz, blues, classic rock, folk, ska, reggae, solo acoustic music, latin jazz, soul and funk. I am a huge fan of the 1960s counter-culture. I enjoy any artistic work that pushes boundaries and challenges our preconceptions. I am currently engaged in writing my final-year dissertation which involves Solresol, a 'universal', music-based language designed to facilitate communication between people of all nationalities regardless of background, disability and so forth. I have a burgeoning interest in Buddhism, and in philosophy generally. |
