THE GOD
In pre-agricultural times, the women stayed in the village looking after the home, the children, gathering herbs and preparing the food the men hunted. These hunters would imitate their prey in rituals of sympathetic magick to ensure a successful hunt. As most of their prey were horned animals it became natural for the people to picture the God of the hunt and wild animals with horns too. Thus was born the Horned God.. The evil, horned deity Satan was an invention of the medieval church and a trick against the Horned God of the Wiccans. This was how the image that Wiccans were satan worshippers came into belief."See, their God has horns and the devil has horns so they must be praying to the devil!"

As agriculture developed, the God's roles begin to expand to that of vegetation God. The rain and sun which fertilizes the Earth Mother, the crops which she in turn gives birth to. He is strong until the harvest where he sacrifices himself for us to live and he will again be reborn in the never ending cycle of life.

The God is the Son of the Earth Mother, the lover who impregnates her. He
defends and cares for her creatures with a fatherly love. He is the Lord of the Dance as his is the rhythms of life, growth, death and rebirth.
As the Moon is to the Goddess so the Sun is to the God. The Moon is soft and harmonizing blending things into one much like the intuitive mind of the female; whereas the Sun emphasizes the difference between things we clearly see much like the analytical mind of the male. As his rising and setting governs our daily lives; his annual dance governs our long term activity and the earthly fruitfulness on which we depend.
