Thomas W. Rose, Private, Co. K




THOMAS W. ROSE, joined the 39th Mounted Infantry on February 16, 1863 at Peach Orchard, Kentucky. At the time of his enlistment he was 15 years old.

He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia, in 1847. Son of Edward S. Rose and Nancy Reed, the family moved to Eastern Kentucky in the 1850's and lived in Floyd, Morgan, and Lawrence Counties [?].

Thomas W. Rose's father Edward joined the 5th West Virginia Infantry in 1862 so both of them were serving at the same time. After the war Thomas studied law. He was a lawyer in Morehead, Kentucky, and was Rowan County Attorney in 1909. He lived in Morehead. He was commissioned as Captain during the Spanish American War and served as Recruiter and Organiser.

Thomas died in 1930, buried in Cottle Cemetery, Morehead, Kentucky.

D. on Apr. 1, 1930; bur. in the Caudill Cem., Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky. Appd. for and recd. a pension in 1890 as a res. of KY. Widow, Mattie Lee, appd. for and recd. a pension in 1930 as ares. of KY.
