Private Lemuel Sturgill


Biography

Lemuel Sturgill was born about 1841 in Floyd County Kentucky. He was the son of Jesse Sturgill and Anna Hall. In the 1850 Floyd County Census he is living in the home of Nimrod and Mary Hall, his grandparents. His mother and brothers Jackson and William are also in this household.

Lemuel and his brother Jackson first took up the rebel cause by enlisting in Company D of the 10th Kentucky Infantry (CSA). On May 10, 1863 they both deserted and on August 16, 1863 Lemuel enlisted in Company K of the 39th Kentucky. Lemuel was mustered-out with the rest of his company on September 15, 1865 in Louisville.

On the 23rd of March 1883, Lemuel's mother Anna applied for a pension, #302,518. Lemuel may have died shortly before this date. The exact location of his burial is unknown.
